Blue Moonlight Part Twelve: The Dark Petals of the Blue Rose
Can she handle anymore?
“How can we only be halfway there?” Johnny whined, Luna rubbed his back. “I just want to disappear.” His mood had been touchy lately, Luna barely able to keep him happy. Something was eating at him, and I needed to find out why. Falling back, Luna went to the front.
“I have known you for years, and something is eating you raw.” I suggested awkwardly, hoping he would open up just a tiny bit. “I want to be a good friend.” Grabbing his hand, he slapped mine away. Jean growled in the back, my death glare shutting him down.
“Why do you fucking care!” He exploded, his fists clenching. “Your fucking god or whatever owns me anyway. So you have to care. I don’t want to be your friend. I just want to be alone. Besides, I am terrible at goodbyes.” Shaking my head, Jean growled aggressively as I pulled him into a friendly hug. Not caring what he meant, my main goal was to make him feel appreciated, and loved.
“You are my friend and I won’t let you be alone. Are you thirsty or something? Just Luna if you can drink her blood.” I urged him quietly to not alert anyone. “She is your mate, and she will do it. If regular blood isn’t doing it anymore then ask. We drink each other’s blood all of the time. I won’t let you decay into a level D vampire where I would have to kill you.” Dirt flew around me, his arm smashing me to the ground. His boots pounded on the ground as he sprinted away, Jean’s face flashed with concern as he watched me chase after him. Dead branches scratched my face, Johnny telling me to go away. A true friend never leaves a friend behind, tears were streaming from his eyes. Luna was running next to me, a warm smile on her face. Her black skirt fluttered in the wind, her white blouse was getting torn apart by branches. A bat with spikes stopped me in my tracks, Barbie landing in front of me. Her bat swung in her hands, my scythe forming in my eager palms. Luna cried out in pain, the bat slamming into her side. Blood poured from her wound, Johnny running to her side. Her life force was fading, rage boiling in his veins. Most of her organs were torn up, Johnny scooping her up into his arms. Fresh tears streamed down his face, the common knowledge that a werewolf couldn’t be turned into a vampire.
“I love you Johnny.” She wheezed, tears flooding from her eyes. “I want you to have a good life.” Her hands dropped to her sides, her eyes rolling back. Flames licked my feet, Johnny standing to his feet. His eyes were completely black, my heart sinking. He was a level D, Jean pulling me back. My fists pounded against his arms, horror widening my eyes. His black dagger doubled in size, shadows towering over Barbie.
“Let me go!” I demanded, a fourth tail growing. “She was my friend, too.” Giving up, tears welled up in my eyes, Johnny charging at her. Their power matched, no his was stronger. Blood poured from his eyes, a small line of blood dripping from the corner of his lips. She cried out in pain, her bat ripping him to shreds. His blade was dicing her from the inside, shadowy claws ripping her chest open. Shock widened his eyes, the wet noise of his bat sliding through his stomach made me cry out.
“You hurt my Luna!” He wheezed, walking towards her exposed chest. “Now it is my turn to rip out your heart.” The spikes shredded his body, his dagger dropping to the ground. Cocking his head, his fingers wrapped around her heart.
“Shadows of the dark, devour the heart who stole mine.” He chanted strongly, his body beginning to disintegrate. “Free me from my prison. Thank you Emily for allowing me to be your friend.” A sad smile dimmed his bloody face, his body turning into a black shadow. Barbie never stood a chance, his energy encircled her pink glass heart. Thunder rumbled above us, heavy raindrops crashing to the ground. My hair was plastered to my face, my green blouse clinging to my skin. My four tails swirled around, my black leather skirt fluttering in the breeze as a burst of black energy smashed us into nearby trees. Black smoke swirled from the center, Jean letting me go. Rocks flew all around me, my feet sliding down the sides. A scream of anguish exploded from my lips, his dagger and her bat remaining. Tears streamed down my face, collapsing to my knees.
“God Damn it!” I yelled over the thunder, the rain suspending mid air. “I was supposed to save you both.” My eyes went black, claws growing from my fingers. Jean leapt down next to me, my urges making me charge at him. His foot slammed into my stomach, the rage growing worse. Everyone watched above us, Jean pulling out his cards. Flicking his wrists, the sharp edges cut me up. Small lines of blood formed all over my body, my scythe raised in the attack position. Charging at him, he caught my blade mid air. Tossing it aside, it faded away. Pulling me close to his chest, my claws dug into his back.
“I won’t lose you today as well.” He sobbed violently, blood soaking his suit. “I need you in my life. Remember we are going to get married and have kids.” My form shrank back to the one tail and ears, his tears soaking the top of my head. Banging my fists on his back, he let me beat him up.
“I couldn’t save him, or my friend.” I blurted out, my arms falling to my side. “He was supposed to be a part of our little family. How can they do that if they are dead!” Holding me tighter, his wounds sealed shut. The cuts all over me sealed shut, his finger lifting my chin. Wet eyes met mine, words sitting on the tip of his tongue.
“He didn’t want to tell you this, but he was dying from a poison this whole time.” He wept, sobs wracking his body. “He was so happy to have the last few weeks in a group and to have friends again.” My heart shattered, my fingers gripping his shirt. A snarl curled on my lips, my fangs biting my lips.
“How could you not tell me!” I demanded icily, shoving him away. “I could have come up with a cure, and I cou-” His arms wrapped around my waist, fresh tears flooding from his eyes. I already knew the words he was about to say, my body going limp. Great, I couldn’t move. Power, I used too much power.
“There was no cure.” He answered numbly, scooping me up in his arms. “I have been trying for weeks, but nothing cures the blue rose poison.” Horror widened my eyes, my mind flashing back to the blue roses in the cave. My jaw dropped, Jean carrying me up the hill.
“Those flowers you showed me were poisonous if they were consumed.” I stammered, everyone’s heads were bowed. “Why were they growing near your mansion?” A loving smile flashed in my direction, his lips brushing my forehead. Motioning for everyone to go ahead, it was just us. Blue moonlight bathed the crater, the immense area it took up amazed me. Sitting down against a tree, my body nuzzled in between his legs.
“Aren’t most poisonous things beautiful in nature?” He sighed deeply, kissing the top of my head. “Aren’t we poisonous creatures if we lose control? Just watch.” A sea of blue roses bloomed in the crater, the weapons dissolving. Relief washed over me, my fingers were wiggling again. Soon enough, I could move again. Letting me go, the beauty in the darkness made my breath hitch. He had a point, a small smile dawning on my face. Touching the ground, the blue roses turned red. White lights floated above us, my tail wagging happily. Of course my heart hurt, but I didn’t want anyone to get poisoned again. No one deserved such a fate.
“Hey, can you tell me something?” I asked sweetly, picking a flower. “Did he say why he didn’t want you to tell me? I just need to know his train of thought.” Resting his hands on his knees, he scratched his head. Thinking of how to word it, he eventually settled on these words.
“He didn’t want you to worry about him. He said that he hated seeing you scared that day and he never wanted to tell me what he did.” He said calmly, wiping away my tears. “At least that is what I thought, but yesterday he told me exactly what he did. As you can imagine, I wanted to rip his throat out, but his next words stopped me. The day you accepted him back into the group, he was touched. He didn’t want to get back together with you, he just wanted to say that he was sorry.” Touched by those words, my heart sank into my stomach.
“So he did remember what he did.” I mumbled to myself, his arms scooped me up. “I am sorry that I didn’t stop him.” Chuckling to himself, his lips pressed against mine hungrily. Confusion twisted my face, a ring shimmering in his hand. Stopping in a circle of trees, he set me down in the middle. Getting down on one knee, he held out his palm. A golden ring sat in the middle, an emerald teardrop gem shimmering in the moonlight.
“Emily, my queen, will you become my wife, and walk by my side for the rest of eternity?” He pleaded with a nervous toothy grin, my heart fluttering. Tears of joy swelled up in my eyes, my fangs biting my lips.
“Of course, I will.” I stammered nervously, putting my hand out. A triumphant window was plastered across his face, his shaking finger sliding it on. My hair flew around me as he spun me around, the spirits of Johnny and Luna waiting in the trees. Their blue forms walked towards us, a real smile on his face.
“Hey, I couldn’t go without saying that I really appreciate everything you have done for me.” He expressed with a sigh of relief, Jean setting me down. “You gave me a second chance after I didn’t think that I deserved one. Could you do me the honor of naming your future child after me? I think that Luna has a few things to tell you.” Stepping back, she stepped forward with a warm smile on my face. Tears welled up in my eyes, her cold arms hugging me tightly. Letting me go, she took my hands. My skirt fluttered in the wind, an icy breeze nipping my skin.
“I want you to be happy, and let everyone help you. Don’t think that my death was your fault. I knew that it was going to happen, in fact we planned it.” She admitted sheepishly, tears streaming down her cheeks. “I saw a vision where you died every single night, and he was dying. So we made a death pact. Fix this world, and get hitched. Have a million kids, and know that Johnny won’t be alone in death. He is with me, and always will be in your heart.” Teardrops crashed to the ground, both of us hugging one last time. Johnny was talking to Jean, Jean’s eyes widening. A crooked grin danced across his face, the two of them running into each other’s arms. Waving to us one last time, their spirits broke into a flurry of blue rose petals. Catching on in my hand, it broke into sparks. Twinkling music began to play, his graceful moves spinning me around the empty circle.
“What did he tell you?” I inquired oddly, rubbing the back of my neck. “Was it an ins-” Jean pressed his lips against my sensually, his red eyes glowing brightly. His hands slid down to my waist, his fangs grazing my neck.
“He said that you will soon be carrying my child.” He whispered sweetly in my ear, nibbling on my ear. “Also that everything was going to be okay. May we please have a bite to eat?” Euphoria shot through my body as his teeth popped my skin, the sound of him drinking my blood making me happy. He cried out in pleasure my teeth sinking into his neck, the wonderful taste of the woods pleasing my taste buds. A soft blush rose to our cheeks, two shooting stars flew across the black night sky.
“Goodbye Johnny and Luna.” I whispered under my breath, Jean wiping the blood from the corner of my lips. They will be the name of our children, and his big ego will be soothed. Putting me on his back, a devious smile danced across his face.
“I wish we could just live here forever.” He babbled lovingly, kissing the top of my hand. “This is a moment that I will never forget.” A crooked grin curled on my lips, my head resting against him. He was my home, his arms were my home.
