Bird's Eye View
For Mackenzie Davis' Ekphrastic Challenge

Mackenzie Davis set us some mean challenge! Yes, she did! To get those grey cells a-buzzing and a-spitting and producing some of that storytelling magic here in the grand old year of 2024. Yes, sirree! And here's my little effort, for the high-flying birdie in the photo. He looks like he's a-having a fine time of it, don't he?
Please note that the photo credit goes to GA Botero and what a wonderful photo it is too.
You can read all about the challenge here:
You need to read this in a California surf dude kind of voice to get the full experience!
I just love me some flying time! I've got me a belly full of fish and I've had me some down time and now it's time to get those wings a-flapping and coast those thermals!
I love the blue. Woooo-eeee! I mean, once I'm up here....Goddamn! It's a breeze, man! And man, am I heavy today. I am full of a whole load of slippery ones. Yes, I am! Thought I'd better work out a bit. I ain't going to get action if I don't work my flappers a bit, you know what I'm saying?
Yep, it was definitely time to get airborne and ride those wind waves! I was standing on my post in the harbour, doing me a bit of preening. You know what I'm saying, man! You got to look good for the ladies, you know? If you don't look good, then it ain't a lot of good you dancing and prancing and doing the old pecky pecky dance because if they ain't looking, they ain't coming a-looking, you know what I mean? Oh yes, you do!
And I was thinking, I fancy me some flying time. Get the sun on my back, the wind ruffling the old undercarriage and I'ma gonna float up there and have me the high life!
And those little suckers weren't going to work off themselves although they felt lively enough still! Nope. I had to have me some exercise and I'd had a glut for lunch! That harbor was full of them little fish that slip down your gullet like they was heading down a waterslide, just like them tourists that come to my neck of the woods. You know 'em, with their dark glasses and their baseball caps and their pinkness! You know 'em, man! Waddling about worse than me on the land, man. Except on those slides and then, boy, do they fly! Not like me, man but they go some speed!
And those fish! They was a-shimmering in that sun like silver darts and I just had to have me some of them. Mmm, mmm! Delish! Fresh fish! That's what I say! Delish! Fresh fish! I just scoop 'em up and gulp 'em down. They tickle a bit but I love that, man! Makes me feel alive alive-o!
Look at me, man! I'm beautiful, man! Me and the blue and the sun and the clouds! It's great to be alive. Feel that wind, man!
I'm up here a-looking down and life couldn't get better. I've got a belly full of lunch and I'm flying high!!
I'm above all those pink ones, man and they just love it. Look at 'em! Look at 'em! They be looking up and taking all of me in! I bet they wish they were me! Or up here with me. Just riding these wind waves in the hot summer sun with a belly full of fish.
I sure is some lucky bird.

I love the vibe of this piece and the surfer voice is great! Well done!
This is so wholesome, Rachel! California surf dude, or a Mater-like hillbilly guy, whatever works, huh? (That's how I ended up reading his accent, lol!) This bird is living the life! Perfectly present in the moment, utterly joyous. I envy his positive attitude, but then, his joy is infectious. What a lovely read!!
I don't really know how a California surf dude talks so I read it how Crush (the turtle) from Finding Nemo talks and this was hilarious! 🤣🤣🤣🤣
I love the humor of this story! It just cracked me up!
I love this story! "Makes me feel alive alive-o! Look at me, man! I'm beautiful, man! Me and the blue and the sun and the clouds! It's great to be alive. Feel that wind, man!" Full of the zest of life & inspired by one photo! Great!
Honestly, I envy this birdie quite a bit. What a life, huh?
Truly thought that bird was going to crap on them. But no, it was just pure, simple joy.
This is just so joyous! What a beautiful entry! Love his little excited accent. You're like the bloody animal whisperer! Brilliant!
Super!!! Excellent story!!!
