Behind the Last Window

A dystopian fiction story about the last window to the outside world

By Jomarie OmandamPublished 3 years ago 3 min read

The outside world was unknown to her, but she could see a glimpse of it through the window in his room. She had never left the city, never ventured beyond the towering walls that surrounded it. It was all she had ever known, and yet, through that small window, she could see a hint of something else. Something more.

She would often sit by the window for hours at a time, staring out at the trees and the sky and the endless horizon beyond. It was a brief respite from the bleak reality of her life in the city, a place where hope was a scarce commodity and the future held nothing but darkness and despair.

But one day, something changed. A voice spoke to her through the window, a voice that was not her own. It was a soft, gentle voice, full of kindness and compassion, and it called to her, beckoning her to come closer.

She hesitated at first, unsure if she could trust this voice, but something about it felt familiar, like a long-lost friend. And so, with a sense of nervous excitement, she inched closer to the window, straining to see who was speaking to her.

To her surprise, she saw a face staring back at her, a face that was both strange and familiar at the same time. It was a face she had never seen before, and yet, it felt like home.

The voice continued to speak to her, telling her stories of the world beyond the walls, stories of a place where the sun always shone and the grass was always green. It was a place of wonder and magic, a place where anything was possible.

As she listened to the voice, she couldn't help but feel a sense of longing and desire. She wanted nothing more than to leave the city and see this magical place for herself. But she knew it was impossible. The city was all she had ever known, and the thought of leaving it behind was terrifying.

But the voice wouldn't let her go. It kept calling to her, urging her to take the risk and follow her dreams. And slowly but surely, she began to realize that the voice was right. She had to leave the city and see the world for herself.

So she made a decision. She would leave the city, leave the only home she had ever known, and venture out into the unknown. It was a risky move, one that could cost her everything, but she knew it was a risk she had to take.

The day of her departure arrived, and she gathered up all of her belongings and said goodbye to her friends and family. It was a bittersweet moment, filled with both sadness and excitement. But she knew that she had to go, no matter how hard it was.

She stepped through the gates of the city, out into the world beyond. It was a bright and sunny day, and the grass was a vibrant green. She could feel the warmth of the sun on her skin, and she took a deep breath of the fresh air.

As she walked, she felt a sense of freedom and possibility that she had never known before. She was no longer bound by the walls of the city, and the world was hers to explore.

And so she traveled, from one place to the next, seeing all the wonders that the world had to offer. She met new people and made new friends, and she felt alive in a way she had never felt before.

But no matter where she went, she always remembered the voice that had called to her through the window. It was the voice that had given her the courage to leave the city and follow her dreams, and she knew that she would always be grateful
