James
James stands in a shower, reluctant to get out because he knows he’ll be one step closer to going to a party that he does not want to go to. He lightly bangs his head into the wall wondering why Elle wanted him to go so much when he knows that she knows he hates parties. He also knows he’ll go anyway because she’s his friend. As he turns off the water and steps out, he glances at himself in the mirror to see his overly slender frame that he hates so much. He tries to make muscles in the mirror for a moment before his head drops in shame. He finishes drying off and brushes his hair back after throwing on the first pair of jeans that he sees and a t-shirt that seems relatively unworn. He grabs his phone and keys, shoots a text to Elle and Logan that he is on his way, and heads out the door.
Elle
Elle sits in front of a mirror, finishing up her eyeliner when she gets a text from James in their group chat that he is leaving. A smile spreads across her face that she doesn’t even seem to notice. She realizes that she isn’t done yet and starts hurriedly finishing the rest of the makeup before he gets here. She stands up to look at the outfit she took two hours to pick to make sure that it’s still the one she wants to wear, furrowing her brow as she starts to reconsider before she hears the familiar honk of James jalopy outside. She takes one last look at the mirror, takes a deep breath, and breathes out the words, “tonight’s the night” and heads downstairs.
Logan
Logan has spent the better part of half an hour trying to get his hair to stay in the position that he wants it to with the new gel that he got that is supposed to give “MAXIMUM LIFT” the jar advertises to no avail. He sighs loudly before settling with his slightly wilted hairdo that he hopes Elle will take notice of. He hears the ding on his phone that he knows belongs to James, probably meaning he’s on his way. He throws on his favorite jacket that he made sure was dry cleaned specifically for tonight, and sits on the steps that lead outside, waiting for James to show up.

The Valley of Mourn
There weren’t always Dragons in the Valley. The Valley was a desolate place, with no good soil to grow food and too warm for anyone to stay longer than it took to pass through on their way to the capitals on either side. It was a dangerous path to take as there was no water and it was only used as a last resort for trade caravans or travelers. It was the meeting place of the two great mountain ranges from the north and south, the Reaching Highland and the Mourning Peaks. These ranges divided the continent for the most part. Many people did not dare cross the Mourning Peaks because of their dangerous sheer cliff faces and jagged spikes that made it impossible to pass for even the most daring adventurers that wished to test their mettle. The Reaching Highland was impassable because of its sharp rise that none could climb. The only way around these ranges was far to the north, south, or through the Valley.
