I opened my eyes, unaware of where I was, unaware of the time. I looked around me desperately trying to find even the most minute clue to provide me with an answer. I turned left, right, and behind me, but nothing made sense. I stood up and when I looked up to the sky, my eyes met a beautiful wine-red color that I have never seen before. I stood with awe in silence, contemplating the color of the sky in an attempt to calm my anxiety of the unknown. I took a deep breath, lowered my shoulders, lifted my chest, raised my right leg and took my first step towards the unknown.
The more I walked the more it appeared as if the night would never come. What once appeared to be a prosperous civilization now was a never-ending maze decorated with rubble. Based on my step count, I calculated I walked for over 12 miles. When I reached 12.3 miles, I noticed from far away a human-like silhouette. Naturally, I became relieved and excited at the idea that I was not alone and perhaps finally, someone could bring me up to speed. As I approached the silhouette, I noticed it rushing towards me with a great speed. I became startled but held my ground to what may come. It was a young boy who looked no older than 13. He grabbed me by the bottom of my vest and yelled, “Run mister/” I ran with the boy for no more than 311 steps until we reached a sky-blue collapsed building. The boy then proceeded to ask me a simple question, “What year is it?” to which I replied, “I don’t know. I feel as if I just woke up from a very long slumber.” The boy gave me a smirk and turned around towards the building and yelled, “He is okay.” I saw about 11 people unveil themselves from within the building carrying a strange weapon that I could only assume were highly advanced guns. We went inside the collapsed building and climbed down through a hole that was about 69 feet in diameter and about 36 feet deep. My eyes could not believe what they were seeing: an entire civilization was living underground.
As we were yet on a higher elevation, we hiked down for no more than 169 feet until we reached the first city. As I entered the city, I felt as if all eyes were on me. The locals started to follow me and the boy as we approached the central square of the city. We walked by an elderly woman who was in the center of a circle surrounded by locals. The elderly lady was narrating a story about the 12 Knights of Obnova: “The twelve knights of Obnova are going to bring an end to the chaos that we inherited from our forefathers. We will once again see peace, prosperity and be able to enjoy the beauty that this world has to offer. We will be able to see the sun, the moon, snow, rain, the ocean and much more… Fear not, for they will arrive when we least expect it. When we are ready as a society to move forward, to grow.” I could feel the longing of the elderly woman wanting for this to come true through her voice. It brought up a fuzzy memory within me, but I was not sure what it was.
We finally reached the central square and all of the locals who had followed us surrounded us and started asking the boy questions. I deduced the boy’s name was Judas because the locals kept saying that name when talking to him. Suddenly a loud drum melody started to play for no longer than 17 seconds. Right after this melody everyone sat down. Amazed by the discipline and order this society portrayed, it gave me a sense of security. I followed suit and performed the same. A group of 6 individuals walked out of what appeared to be a temple and started announcing the arrival of Azula. They said, “We have received a premonition, a new era of prosperity and growth is set to come with the awakening of Azula. Today is a day to celebrate this great news.” Among this announcement, there were others, but this one had piqued my attention the most.
After all the announcements were finished, Judas walked me to a group that appeared to be the warrior type. There were a total of 13 of them. Their leader's name was Roger. I told them I did not know my name at this moment and was experiencing amnesia. Roger seemed troubled with that piece of information and invited me to go out and hunt, as we were about to have a celebration.
We went back up to the surface through the tunnel and the 69-foot-wide hole and outside the sky-blue collapsed building. We started to search for any animal that was edible on the outskirts of the once prosperous city. We caught 3 bunnies, 2 deer, and 1 wild sheep. As we were heading back, Roger stood still and made a hand sign that I instinctively understood as to stay still. A humanoid-like figure appeared right in front of us and started attacking us. I instinctively reached into my pocket as if it were second nature and pulled out a Sapphire Golden Heart-Shaped Locket. Upon holding it with my left hand, a flood of memories started flooding into me, as if I was receiving a direct download into my brain. It was at this moment that the questions I had since I booted up made perfect sense; I finally understood what my purpose was. I had Awakened!
