At Dinner, She Noticed What Was On The News...
She loved their little family and their life in the country
As they sat down to dinner, the television in the kitchen was on and the news was playing. The children were busy talking about what happened in school that day. He was clearly hungry and in a hurry to eat his meal.
She was facing the television when a photo like the one above flashed onto the screen. A man had been murdered in that neighborhood and this man was taped running down the driveway from a camera attached to the garage.
She immediately froze as that man looked just like her husband George. It can't be George she thought. She looked at the news so perplexed that George asked her if something was wrong. She then pointed to the news where they were talking about the incident.
George got up, went to the television, and shut it off. Not a good thing to watch during dinner he stated as he smiled and sat down. Gloria was surprised that he did that and at the same time, she was sure that had nothing to do with her husband.
After all, he had been gone for a few days on business and had only now arrived back home. Then she thought that he didn't have running shoes that color, and she had never seen him wearing leggings before. It wasn't him she thought as she started to calm down.
Later that day she washed his laundry and he had no leggings in his bag, nor did she see the shoes that were on the man in the photo. George appeared to be planning another business trip. Gloria approached him and asked more questions about his trip than normal.
She asked where he was when he was out of town this week. She said she realized if something happened to him, she wouldn't know where he was. He told her that he was in New York and was nowhere near where the man was murdered. She sighed and hugged his neck.
Thankful that it couldn't have been George.
Gloria was clearly bothered by what happened yesterday. She recognized she was really pretty oblivious to what George was doing on his business trips. She really didn't know much about his work at all. She only knew that they lived comfortably. She had no wants for anything.
She had a household budget that more than covered expenses and gifts and other things she would want to purchase and she could talk to George about any other larger expenses when something needed to be replaced. He would always come up with the money.
Gloria thought about how George was attentive and a good dad. They had been on a family vacation each year and they had season passes to the local ski hills and golf courses. She did not have to work out of their home. She belonged to committees and volunteered at their church every week.
They were planning a cookout for this weekend and inviting neighbors. It was a yearly pattern of taking turns hosting a barbeque each year. He can't be that man on the news, yet she could not let it go.
Gloria looked up the news story and there was a short story update about how the murder looked like a hitman man may have committed the crime.
A hitman! Not George!
George was taking some time off and going on a motorcycle ride today. Because Gloria has the weekly commitment at the church, she wasn't going with him. Even though it was a perfect day for a ride on motorcycles.
That night as Gloria was preparing dinner she saw a brief story about the man who was murdered a couple of days ago now and how the suspect was in a chase with the police and was apprehended and taken to the hospital after crashing on his motorcycle.
Just then the phone rang.
