Send the sun!!!!!

It wasn’t something many in the town had heard thunder from their Kings lips. Not in this lifetime, or the next, or the one before last. Centuries had passed and King Leonel was growing war-hungry, nearing his two-hundred-and-fifty-third birthday. She should have been here to celebrate.

A thousand ants could have sweltered, faltered and swarmed the castle; bringing a thousand more and it would have been no match for the inferno brimming inside. The itch for blood. The taste of defeated victory. The wish of death upon all who dared to betray him. He wasn’t asking for mercy under calm skies. Where the moon might forget, a Queen never does. But this story doesn’t have a Queen, it barely had a King.

Queen Leona was the heel in the vase of his mind. Her decaying perfume lingering in vast blooming array, displayed for the world to see. Her ruin had brought him to knees he had never once bent. Mad-violets bloomed over her crystalline coffin as the city wept in black. Lamps barely flickered, their embered glow faltering as the oil ran low. A dusky gloom hung in the low-lying fog as it sauntered up the street, tickling whomever thought to embark on a leisurely stroll on a day like this. The Queen’s Reprieve. A fool’s errand.

His castle was haunted, being devoured from the inside out by the fiercest and most destitute of hell-hounds and King Leonel was busy selling his soul, seducing Ravens blood to bring his good Queen back. The arrows of hungry, angry men had pierced the soul of his beloved, damning her to the depths of perdition and he was no match for their grasp. Those who wished him harm held fast, burdening themselves with the weight of their plight. A cause unfounded, for King Leonel was undefeated in all wars, even those he’d conjured up. An overthrowing was not likely. No daggers would befall this heart.

Send the Sun!!!!

It was more a cry to the heavens, a dire warning to all those who had the courage to bow in the face of his Kingship. Those who dare to pierce the mighty veil of the god-reincarnate, himself. King Leonel would bring them eternal light. He would shoot the mighty sun across the clouded sky and let it rain fire upon his enemy. Damning them all to hell before he ever gave up his throne.
