Hi, Mystery Osaretin is here! Today, I’ll be explaining a horror sci-fi movie called The Hills Have Eyes. Spoilers ahead—watch out and take care!

The movie opens with a note stating that between 1945 and 1962, the US government conducted over 300 atomic experiments in the New Mexico desert. However, they deny the genetic effects caused by the radiation. The scene then cuts to a desert where a group of scientists in hazmat suits explore the area. Moments later, a blood-covered man appears, pleading for help. Before the group can react, a mutant named Pluto arrives and attacks them, killing everyone with his pickaxe and chaining their bodies to his truck before driving away.

We then move to a rundown gas station in a remote area near San Diego. The owner, Fred, hears strange noises and rushes outside with a gun, believing it must be a girl named Ruby. When no one responds, Fred returns home and finds a bag on his doorstep. He calls out to someone named Jupiter, stating he’s tired of helping them and cannot continue. Nonetheless, he takes the bag inside and discovers jewels and other personal items, including a container with a severed ear.

Next, we see a family traveling through the desert in a caravan attached to a broken-down car. The family consists of a retired police officer, Big Bob, his wife Ethel, their daughters Lynn and Brenda, and their son Bobby. Lynn’s husband Doug and their infant daughter Catherine are also with them, along with their two German Shepherds, Beauty and Beast. They are headed to San Diego for Ethel and Big Bob’s silver marriage anniversary vacation. During the journey, Big Bob decides to take a detour but ends up getting lost. They soon arrive at an old gas station where they meet Fred. While filling up their tank and asking for directions, a mutant steals Bobby’s red sweatshirt. Moments later, Beauty becomes agitated and runs into Fred’s store, where Lynn notices a bag containing jewels. Fred arrives, startling her, and she leaves.

Fred suggests a shortcut through the hills to save two hours. The family drives on a bumpy road that eventually disappears, unaware they are crossing a former military site used for atomic tests. A mysterious person places a chain with metal spikes on the road, puncturing the tires and causing the caravan to skid and collide with a rock. Although uninjured, the vehicle’s broken axle leaves the family stranded. With no signal to call for help, Big Bob decides to walk back to the gas station, while Doug heads in the opposite direction. The rest of the family sets up a picnic, unaware they are being watched through binoculars.

Beauty starts barking and runs into the hills. Bobby chases her and finds her mutilated remains, devastating him. He tries to flee but slips and gets knocked out. A mutant girl named Ruby, wearing his red sweatshirt, finds him fascinating and watches him. Meanwhile, another mutant, Goggle, feeds on Beauty’s remains. Doug finds numerous damaged vehicles at the end of the road, shocking him. Big Bob reaches the gas station, finds it deserted, and discovers old newspaper articles revealing the location’s history as a nuclear weapons test site. The radiation exposure disfigured miners and devastated their habitat, leading to mutants killing everyone who enters the area. Bob pulls out his gun but is rendered unconscious by Jupiter and dragged away by mutants Lizard and Pluto.

Back at the caravan, Brenda finds Bobby unconscious and brings him back. Although shaken, Bobby doesn’t mention Beauty’s death. Doug returns with items found in abandoned vehicles. As night falls, Bobby becomes worried about his father. They hear Big Bob crying in the distance, tied to a tree and burning alive by the mutants. Doug, Ethel, Lynn, and Bobby rush to help, leaving Brenda alone. Mutants sneak inside the caravan and assault her. Lynn hears her sister’s cries and rushes to help but is held at gunpoint by Lizard. Outside, Bob is burned alive. Ethel rushes to the caravan but is shot by Lizard, who then kills Lynn. Lizard and Pluto escape with baby Catherine. Doug and Bobby return to find Lynn dead and Ethel dying.

Meanwhile, Goggle is killed by Beast, who returns with his hands and a walkie-talkie. They overhear the mutants planning another attack. The next day, Doug, guided by Beast, searches for the mutants’ hideout and finds an abandoned village used for nuclear tests. He finds Catherine in a house but is knocked out by a mutant. Doug wakes up in a freezer surrounded by body parts, manages to escape, and meets a mutant named Big Brain, who recounts the mutants' history. Pluto attacks Doug, who eventually kills him and takes his rifle. Big Brain orders Lizard to kill the baby, but Beast kills Big Brain. Ruby, unable to let the baby die, flees with Catherine. Doug catches up, persuades Ruby to hand over the baby, and fights Lizard, ultimately killing him with Ruby’s help.

Meanwhile, Bobby and Brenda set up a defense system and notice their mother’s body missing. Bobby finds Jupiter devouring his mother’s heart and lures him to the caravan, which explodes, killing Jupiter. Doug returns with Catherine, and the family reunites. However, someone is watching them through binoculars from the hills.
