Los Angeles. A city where so many lost angels come and find demons. One such angel is a young woman named Marissa Elerby. A young woman who seeks a career as an actress, but will soon find what really lies under the hood of Hollywood is far more imaginative and horrifying than any movie could ever depict.
Marissa was walking down the street in the heat of the Los Angeles night. She had just come back from an audition at Sunrise Studios. Her emotions are still in a bind. Marissa was hoping that she would land a role in an upcoming stage play title Faded Limes, but her audition was not as well received as she hoped. While walking down a dark alley she catches a glimpse of a man in a long black trench coat watching her from behind. She paused while watching him, not fully able to make out who he was. All she could see was a figure with spikey hair in the shadowy corner of the alley.
She nonchalantly brushed him off and kept walking. As she continued down this dark alley she started to notice that the shadowy figure in the trench coat with spikey hair was following her and started to speed up. As Marissa made it to the end of the alley she looked behind her and saw the shadowy figure who was following her was now no longer there. When she faced her front she found two individuals standing in front her. One of them had on a black t-shirt with light brown cargo pants and the other had on a blue cargo jacket with blue jeans.
“You lost doll?” The man in the blue jeans asked. “No” Marissa started. “But I think someone’s following me”. “Yeah you’re right” the man in the black t-shirt responded. Marissa stared at them in a confused silence. Both of the men’s faces bended into a demonic form and revealed fangs from their mouths, they were vampires. “WE’RE FOLLOWING YOU” they both exclaimed in a gleeful yell. “AHHHH!!!!” Marissa screamed.
At the sound of Marissa’s scream the shadowy figure in the trench coat with spiky hair slowly emerged from behind the two vampires. “Hey guys! I don’t think the lady’s interested” the man said sarcastically. The vampire in the brown cargo jacket took a swing at him with his right hand to which the pale faced man in the trench coat blocked with his left hand, while landing a punch with his right hand. After exchanging blows with the vampire in the cargo jacket, the man in the trench coat was then struck in the back by a kick from the vampire in black shirt.
The trench coated figure briefly fell over, but recovered in time to duck a second attempt at a kick from the black shirted vampire. He then rose to his feet and landed a round house kick to the black shirted vampire that sent him flying into the brick wall of the building beside the fighting trio. Marissa looked on to the fight in both fear and amazement at how well the man in the trench coat was holding his own. As Marissa looked on she caught the attention of the vampire in the cargo jacket who quickly started toward her direction.
He was instantly stopped by a kick in the gut from the man in the trench coat. As the cargo jacketed vampire leaned over in pain the man in the trench coat revealed a wooden stake out of the sleeve of his coat and stuck it in the heart of the vampire, instantly turning him to ash. The vampire in the black shirt recovered and angrily charged toward the man in the trench coat, who then revealed a second stake out of the other sleeve of his coat and buried it in the heart of the vamp as he neared him, once again turning him into a pile of ashes.
“Oh my God” a relieved Marissa uttered. “You saved me” she exclaimed to the man in the trench coat. “Who are you?” She asked curiously. “I used to go by Angelus” the man began. “But you can call me Angel”. As he departed into the shadows of the night with a slight smile, Marissa looked on with appreciation that she had just been saved by Angel, the vampire with a soul.

You are truly talented Joe.
What truly stood out to me was the depth of your characters. The protagonist’s journey of discovery and the encounters along the way were both intriguing and moving. The themes of redemption and hope were woven seamlessly into the narrative, offering a poignant reminder of the light that can be found even in the darkest of places. Your ability to blend the supernatural elements with the very human emotions of your characters is impressive. It added a layer of complexity to the story that left a lasting impression on me.
Impressive writing. Thank you for sharing.
