"And what's your father's name?" - Jake asked, but he got no answer.
Susan sat speechlessly on the bench, she seemed to be zoned out.
"Susan, hello?" - Jake shook her shoulders.
"Hmm?" - Susan woke up and responded.
"Come on Susan, you are not deaf!"
"Sorry, can you repeat?" - Susan sounded really exhausted.
"How's your father..."
"Oh, my father... He never knew me... we never met"
"How come?"
"Well he wasn't the best dad ever... he travelled a lot, and barely came home. My mom was always stressed out and they'd just argue on the phone for hours... They made me run away and head up to my room. These weren't the best days, yet they'll haunt me forever..."
"Wow"
"Yeah, we never had a powerful bond..." - Susan stared at the ground and then she shrugged. - "But at least now you understand my story..."
"What about your dog?" - Jake loved to just play around and use sarcasm whenever he had the chance. He meant that as a joke too, but Susan's answer successfully shocked the boy:
"My dog? Oh, yeah, my dog! She's called Suzy, named after me. Susan, and Suzy... funny huh? - she chuckled softly, but Jake just stared at her desperately.
"What?" - the woman asked confused. The sparkle of her eyes was suddenly gone.
The boy looked just as concerned as her.
"Jake, what's your problem...?"
"But you don't even have a dog..." - Jake frowned.
"What do you mean? She was rescued from the streets last month."
"Really? You haven't told me about her... Why's that?"
"Days just got very busy, you know... we haven't even spoken on the phone for the past few weeks..."
"Yeah, that's true..."
After she became hushed, the door opened and a nurse entered the room.
Jake helped the woman up.
"Come on mom, we need to start your treatment."

Author's note: I wanted to write this story for the L*pogram Challenge, but I failed to reach 1000 words, and the close deadline doesn't help me either. I know they'll probably eliminate this because of the wordcount, but I struggled a lot with this one and I'm proud that I managed to create something out of it. The story is not that clear, I know, and I'm sorry about that, but I could hardly make it without any "i" in it. (I think the title explains it all though).
