Alice's Error
An Understandable Mistake
Alice, desperate to save her friend, jumped into the fresh grave and frantically stabbed at the casket with a crowbar. Karen was buried alive hours ago. Alice's phone dinged—another panicked text. Not too late.
The screen lit up the earthen prison like a neon well. She couldn't hear Karen screaming, so she guessed the casket was soundproof. Alice answered in text:
ur almost out
Send.
A familiar ringtone sounded on the surface. Alice turned, filled with ice and bile, as Karen's phone hurtled down, striking her temple. Consciousness slipped away while loam began to rain down, sealing her fate.
About the Creator
Maia Gadwall the metAlchemist
I fell in love with speculative fiction and poetry many years ago, but I have precious little time to write any. Then, I went crazy and started a cult called metAlchemy, or meta alchemy. I revere energy of all brands, esp. good, kind chaos.
