Algorithmic Armor Against Adversaries

The Evolution of AI

By KeenKolaPublished about a year ago 2 min read

Charles, the young cybersecurity analyst for a tech startup.

He hopped on a chair and leaned closer to his monitor as he meticulously scanned the erratic lines of code. The patterns looked friendly, but each was sinister.

And boom! A breach attempt. He identified one unauthorised access. His fingers started dancing furiously over the keyboard.

Cybersecurity was not this terrifying. It was a mere game of plugging holes in a dam that never stopped leaking—like patchwork. But since the advent of AI, the profession has metamorphosed into a war.

“Hey, Charles,” John, his colleague, appeared. “That anomaly report you flagged? It is spreading across our systems.” John said in a casual tone, though his furrowed brows said otherwise.

“How fast?" Charles quickly asked.

“Very fast,” John replied grimly.

The attack had dealt a blow to the firm’s entire infrastructure. He needed to act. Swiftly. And error-free. The attackers had deployed a sophisticated AI-driven arsenal.

“Deploy the Sentinel,” Charles commanded.

“Are you sure? That program is still being experimented with, the hesitant John replied.

“We do not have time to doubt. Please do,” he steadied his voice.

Charles trusted Sentinel. It was their AI-powered defence system, built on NVIDIA’s Morpheus framework and bolstered by Deloitte’s CyberSphere intelligence. It could react to situations such as this.

A few weeks back, he had busied himself by studying and refining its algorithms, feeding it real data to make it ever-ready and work smarter and faster.

As instructed, the Sentinel came on live. The cascading alerts instantly lit up the interface as it emerged. He watched—process by process—how it identified the malicious external code and isolated threats with surgical precision.

His phone buzzed. “Charles, we can't afford downtime. Get this fixed,” he read the CEO’s commanding message.

He responded with a nod, but to himself. He could not afford to miss every single process of the Sentinel's live operation.

Still gazing at the monitor, an abrupt notification appeared. A positive one. “This thing is working,” he whispered.

He exhaled, the tension in his shoulders easing gradually. But the battle lingered on. The attackers pivoted, adapting to the powerful Sentinel’s tactics.

“Ok, let’s see how clever you are,” Charles murmured, discordant noise emanating across the keyboard caused by his fingers.

It was a battle. AI versus AI. An hour later, the threat was neutralized. The Sentinel had won but also learned. Its algorithms are now even more formidable.

Charles gripped his chair and leaned back, exhausted. Mingled with pride, he said aloud to himself. “AI isn't just a tool. It is our armor, our dependable edge in a war that never sleeps.”

He now had another friend in his lonely small cubicle—the Sentinel—in addition to the steady hum of the server—the silent witnesses to the fight.
