Aftermath

Hope Rises

By Lonnie LarsonPublished 5 years ago 6 min read

It had been ten years since the world governments implemented their “New World Order”. The total world population had been reduced to just over one billion people and spread out equally around the planet. This was achieved by introducing a virus upon the planet, thus creating a world-wide pandemic. The people were killed by telling them that they had a vaccine for the virus. Those that received the shot were dead within four years. The instigators knew that enough people would refuse the vaccine thereby ensuring they would have a suitable population of strong and healthy workers.

These leaders also knew that there would be a significant amount of people that had prepared for such a pandemic and would hide out in their specially built bunkers across the major continents. The instigators then rounded up everyone and they were segregated by their abilities; farmers, fishermen, machinists, electrical engineers, mechanics, construction workers and timber producers. These workers were then distributed throughout the world where they began working to provide the leaders with food, water, clothes, transportation and utilities.

There were seven Chancellors, one for each of the major continents and one World President. The Chancellors were responsible for about one hundred and forty-three million people. It was their duty to insure that certain industries were working. These workers were made to work between forty and sixty hours a week for their meager food and housing allotments.

It was little more than slave labor. They were told where and when to work. They were chosen and then allowed to make children, which were quickly snatched up by their overlords and raised by the state until they could join the work force. If you became too old or weak to work you were removed from your communities and killed. As a matter of fact; No one was allowed over the age of fifty-five. This ensured for a healthy and obedient population of workers.

For a little over six years these workers toiled away at their assigned jobs. Little did the world leaders know that there were far more people around the world that had stayed hidden; some in plain sight. There were resistance figures buried deep within the ranks of the soldiers that were assigned to protect them. They communicated surreptitiously among their ranks; plotting to some day throw off their shackles and take their respective countries back.

They had to be very careful because their overlords had eyes and ears all over. If they were found out, it meant a swift and public execution for them. The world leaders wanted to make it perfectly clear that there would be no uprisings or resistance tolerated. They worked and secretly stocked their bunkers with medical supplies, food, water, weapons and ammunition.

When the time came to rebel the leader, Thomas Anderson, gave the orders from his secure bunker buried deep underground in his home state of Nebraska. The first to disrupt were the lines of communications between the Chancellors and the President. These disruptions started out minor at first and then grew in frequency as their ranks grew and they positioned themselves closer to their overlords. The snitches were also taken care of; many falling victim to “accidents” while working. Soon it became apparent that anyone caught snitching would soon dissapear and they stopped snitching altogether.

Next the rebels started removing soldiers from their duties. When the leaders requested reinforcements, they received rebels. It was slow and arduous work. But, in time, it payed off. When the rebellion started they were able to take out many of the soldiers. There were losses on both sides. After a few years of fighting the rebels started to make headway. North America and Australia were the first to be liberated. South America fell next and then Africa and Europe. After the Sub-Continent of India fell they concentrated their efforts on Asia including Russia.

It took over ten years, but the world was free from the dominating hands of the overlords. The continents took on a republic form of Government. Twenty five years after the first people died from the pandemic virus, the planet was healing. It was decided that they would ask if Thomas wanted to be the leader of North America so the few rebels that actually knew where he lived made their way to Nebraska.

When they arrived at the bunker they were met by a sixty-three year old woman by the name of Julie and her twenty-five year old son named Jacob. She lead them in and introduced them to her father; eighty-seven year old Thomas Anderson.

“Mr. Anderson. My name is Jack Wilson. This is Bill Smyth and this is Brian Adams. It’s an honor to meet you,” Jack stated. “We have come to ask you if you would be our new President of North America for a few years while we straighten up the Nation.”

“I’m an old man. You must have younger people to choose from,” Tom stated.

“Yes. But they are no where near as knowledgeable as you are,” Bill offered next. “There aren’t many people left that remember how our Republic was started.”

“Yes! Our overlords made sure to destroy most of our past history,” Brian added.

“Father. You have your files,” Julie offered.

“Files? What files?” Jack asked.

“My father has made files with the Declaration of Independence as well as the Constitution of The United States of America in them,” Julie stated. “He also has copies of the Bill of Rights and the other amendments that had been made to the Constitution.”

“Oh my! Those would be an invaluable asset to our rebuilding the country,” Bill stated.

“Yes they would,” Brian added. “They would be a great asset.”

“I’ll have to think it over. In the mean time, I’ll have Julie make the necessary copies and give them too you to take back with you,” Tom offered.

“We understand sir. Thank you very much,” Jack stated.

“Stay, have supper with us. You can head out tomorrow or after a few days if you like,” Julie offered. “Jacob. Prepare some beds for our guests.”

“Yes maam,” Jacob replied and then dissapeared.

“Thank you kindly for your invitation,” Jack stated.

“No problem. You men talk and I’ll start supper,” Julie stated and then went into the kitchen area to start supper.

They talked during supper. Jack and his friends discussed what they would like to do. Thomas agreed to go with them but not for a few days yet. When the time came for them to leave; Julie removed her heart shaped locket that her father, Thomas, had given her when she graduated high school. It contained a picture of herself and Jacob.

“Take this with you father. You can give it back to me when you come home,” she stated as she handed him the locket.

“I couldn’t. This has never left your neck since I gave it too you,” he protested.

“It’s okay. I want you to keep it with you until you return,” Julie insisted.

“Well. Okay. We better get started or we’ll never get there,” Tom said as he climbed into the van that brought Jack, Bill and Brian too his door.

Julie shed a tear as she watched the van drive down the path back out to the main road. It took about seven years to establish a working government again and when it was time for Thomas to return home he was flown back in the old “Marine One” chopper.

It’s been over fifty years since the end of the pandemic and the reborn country is doing fine again. The other countries of the world have taken the path of the New United States of America. All of the overlords and members of the new World Order were rounded up and made to work in the fields and factories. It looks like the planet might just make it after all.
