Dishonorable Discharge

By SyncerePublished 3 years ago 1 min read

I stood over the double plot, the beautifully laid stone at my feet.

My aunt had been gone a few years. My beloved grandmother joined her a few years later. They'd been mourned. And now, on the day we buried my grandfather, mourning commenced again. A short walk through Fairlawn Cemetary to visit the aforementioned 2 decedents transpired.

But alas, the stone above that double plot rendered me quizzical. My father's averted gaze told me his weaknesses prevented him from honoring his mother.

He'd failed me my whole life. That day, his eyes were empty. Like half that stone. Bereft.
