“Open wide.”

With the dentist’s chair leaning me back, I nervously open my mouth.

I didn’t want to come here, but a persistent toothache had been nagging at me for a few weeks.

I wince as the dental tools move around in my mouth, the bright light shining in my eyes. At least they keep high-grade sunglasses for patients to use.

One of the tools hits that nerve, and I almost jump out of my seat.

“Apologies.” He moves back. “But other than a needed teeth cleaning, everything looks good.”

“But that tooth hurts.”

“It can happen when the teeth aren't properly cleaned.”

I nod. “Well, let’s get this over with.”

After much scraping and wincing, my mouth is sore, and my teeth are smooth as I walk out of the office.

But the toothache is gone.
