A Song of Fire and Shadow
A story I am working on that involves elemental benders and such!
The world started with fire. It was calmed by water and built by earth. And when the shell of life was finish, air breathed into it and finalized the creation of the first three.
With the creation of the world, the big four were praised for their work and worshipped by the world they had created.
Fire as the eldest was known for her power. She could create and destroy. Fire was a beautiful light but behind that lovely glow there was a temper that could threaten to destroy the very things she had created.
Water as the second eldest was known for his flexibility. He could exist in multiple forms, flow past and through things but could become solid as stone. He was fire’s other half, the half that could easy the burn and bring forth the light. And fire could bring forth waters versatility and confidence.
Earth was the third, and she was as everyone ever said she was. A soft and loving power. She mothered the world and loved them no matter the harm they brought her. But even earth could have a breaking point, a point that when reached could turn the once loving mother into a cold disaster. Earth was our stability, she was the stability of the group and any time the lost her stability, the entire group fell to chaos.
And wind as the youngest, was a tricky young boy. He was clever and fast and often had to be resourceful. Least he be forgotten by the other three, though as the little brother he could never be forgotten. Wind was a boy would could not be captured and no matter how well they thought they knew the lad, he always seemed to surprise them.
But it was the beginning of a fifth being as well. A being that was never a part of the four; darkness. Darkness was a void of things, a being sent to destroy the life force of the four, to extinguish the light of fire and through the world into a void of nothing. Darkness was not like the four, and would always be the opposing force to the four. A beast waiting to strike at the four.
But as time when on, and so are the way things are, the big four began to fade from the world of man as they hid themselves in nature and humans became their masters. Humans learn to use the creations of the big four to bend their lives to their own making. But as time continued to go on, the big four would bless people. Giving them the gift to truly wield the power of one of the four.
In the beginning they were wise men and women of their tribes, then they were witches and voodoo men, until finally they became shadows of society. A legend of the past and nothing more than a child’s bed time story. As the big four hid themselves from the world of man, their blessed ones became hidden within society as they formed their own groups and lived with one foot in a world of mystical wonder and the other in a modern society of a man made world.
