A Reimagining of Imagination

A shift in time. The Forgotten room.

Just imagine if we packed up all of the stories which long ago were written by the dreamers of tomorrow, whose imaginations opened the doors of wonder for future generations...and grudgingly locked them away in a great big forgotten room. The key hung in a dark and musty attic, time forgetting that the key and stories ever existed.

Would our dreams still lead us where we follow

Towards beginnings and ends - to discover a time

When Neverland returns its books to shelves

By Max Böhme on Unsplash

For now our shelves are empty, bare and stark

And Nevermore's raven speaks nevermore

If we never need Neverbird's feathers anymore

Where then do we look to seek out our lovely beasts

Our monsters, fairies, witches, ghosts and ghouls

In tall and fanciful flights of deviations, where can we find

The beauty in the fantastical and marvelous tales

Hoping to never lose this awe and wonder evermore

If there were no more Nevermore, no Neverland books to shelves and Nevermore raven spoke nevermore, what would surely happen then.

Let me forever dwell in a world where tales are immortal and dreams intertwine with reality, where exists a place such as Neverland. This land, timeless and boundless, holding within it not just lost girls, boys and pirates, but treasure troves of stories...each book, poem or manuscript becoming a world waiting to be explored.

If ever I should cease to dream, and my yearnings awaken nevermore, may a gentle whisper spread throughout the enchanted air of Neverland:

"It's time to return".

The magical library of Neverland, long closed and forgotten, will again began to stir. Dusty tomes and ancient scrolls, filled with the adventures of John Steptoe's "Mufaro's Beautiful Daughters", or Virginia Hamilton's "Collections of African American Tales" and M. C. Higgins the Great. There are Helen Oyeyemi's books that are like games, as she says. Her "Mr. Fox and What Is Not Yours Is Not Yours", will begin to float from their hiding places, making their way back to the grand shelves that once cradled them.

M. C. Higgins, the Great, first published in 1974, is a realistic novel by Virginia Hamilton that won the 1975 Newbery Medal for excellence in American children's literature. It also won the National Book Award for Young People's Literature and the Boston Globe-Horn Book Award; it was the first of only two books to do so (the other being 1998's Holes by Louis Sachar).

++++++++Meanwhile

In the shadowed realms, the Nevermore Raven, a mystical bird often seen as a dark prelude of doom, also felt a change. The raven, whose melancholy cry of "nevermore" had once echoed through darkened nights, now found its voice transforming. It no longer croaked the mournful "nevermore" but a curious and hopeful "Evermore." This shift then shall signal an end to its era of foreboding and the start of a great renewal.

As the books settled back onto their shelves, the very essence of Neverland began to shift. Characters long forgotten felt a renewed sense of purpose. Peter Pan noticed a spring in his flight, Wendy heard new adventures whispering in her dreams, and even Captain Hook found a strange sense of peace, his vendetta against Peter seeming less urgent with every tick of the now-broken clock.

The Nevermore Raven, embracing its new voice, found joy in its new found freedom. Instead of foretelling doom, it led the lost boys and girls to hidden stories within the tomes. Its sleek, black form, once a harbinger of despair, now gleamed with the promise of discovery and wonder.

The return of the books infused Neverland with fresh magic. The realm transformed into a vibrant mystical kingdom of activity, where past and future stories wove together, creating endless possibilities. The enchanted library now becomes the heart of Neverland, pulsing with the life of every story ever told and yet to be told.

Mysticism and grand stories now thrive, not just on the memories of old adventures but on the anticipation of new ones. The land where time stood still found movement in the words penned on pages. The legacy of Neverland grew, no longer just a place of eternal youth but a sanctuary for every dreamer who dares to imagine.

And so, the entire world of magical and non-magical libraries, with their stories replenished, restored, and reformed, evermore shall continue to enchant, captivate, and inspire. May it remain a timeless haven where imagination takes flight, and stories live forevermore.

I love the journey to Neverland becoming Everland, can't imagine a world without fairy tales, magic and wonder. I read this a few times just for the enjoyment of it. Love it a lot.

  • Oooo, a crossover of Peter Pan and the Raven! So cool. I loved it!

This could easily be adapted into a children's story. I can see someone reading it to their child before bed. Great work, Antoni!

  • Peter Pan has always been a great favourite of mine....I am glad that he was given a lift! Figuratively, at least!
