A Love That Dare Not Speak It’s Name

“ When Professional Boundaries Are Tested “

By Taiwo OyeyinkaPublished about a year ago 4 min read

As she stepped into the office, Emily couldn't help but feel a flutter in her chest. It wasn't the mundane routine of another workday that excited her, but the prospect of seeing him - her boss, Jack.

Emily had been working as a marketing coordinator at Smith & Co. for over two years. She had always admired Jack's leadership and professionalism, but it wasn't until six months ago that she started to feel a different kind of appreciation for him.

It began with small things - the way he smiled when he walked into a meeting, the way his eyes crinkled at the corners, or the way his voice sounded when he spoke to her. Emily tried to brush it off as a harmless crush, but as time went on, her feelings only intensified.

She found herself looking forward to their daily interactions, whether it was discussing marketing strategies or simply exchanging pleasantries. Emily felt like she was walking on air whenever Jack was near, and she couldn't help but wonder if he felt the same way.

But, of course, he didn't. Jack was her boss, after all. He was married, with two kids, and Emily was just a lowly employee. She knew it was futile to harbor any romantic feelings for him, but she couldn't help herself.

As the days turned into weeks, Emily's infatuation with Jack only grew stronger. She started to notice little things about him that she had never noticed before - the way he tapped his pen on the desk when he was thinking, the way he always wore a simple silver watch on his left wrist, or the way he smelled like a combination of coffee and cologne.

Emily felt like she was losing her mind. She couldn't concentrate on her work, and she found herself making silly mistakes just so she could get Jack's attention. She knew it was pathetic, but she couldn't help herself.

One day, as she was working late, Jack walked into the office and caught her staring at him. Emily felt her face heat up with embarrassment as Jack raised an eyebrow and asked her if everything was okay.

Emily stuttered out a reply, feeling like a complete idiot. But to her surprise, Jack smiled and sat down next to her. "Hey, I wanted to talk to you about the Johnson account," he said, his voice low and smooth. "I think you're doing a great job, but I need you to make a few changes to the marketing strategy."

As they worked together, Emily felt her embarrassment melt away. She was surprised by how easy it was to talk to Jack, how comfortable she felt in his presence. For the first time, she saw him not just as her boss, but as a person.

Over the next few weeks, Emily and Jack worked closely together on several projects. They would often meet for coffee or lunch to discuss their progress, and Emily found herself looking forward to these meetings more and more.

She couldn't believe how much she enjoyed Jack's company. He was smart, funny, and kind, and Emily felt like she could be herself around him. For the first time in her life, she felt like she had found someone who truly understood her.

But, of course, Jack was still her boss. And he was still married. Emily knew that she had to keep her feelings hidden, no matter how hard it was.

As the months went by, Emily's infatuation with Jack only grew stronger. She found herself wondering what it would be like to be with him, to hold his hand, to kiss him. She knew it was wrong, but she couldn't help herself.

One day, as they were working late, Jack turned to her and said, "You know, Emily, I really appreciate all your hard work. You're an amazing employee, and I don't know what I'd do without you."

Emily felt her heart skip a beat. She looked up at Jack, her eyes locking with his. For a moment, they just stared at each other, the tension between them palpable.

Then, Jack looked away, clearing his throat. "Sorry, I didn't mean to make things awkward," he said, standing up. "I'll let you get back to work."

Emily nodded, feeling a mix of disappointment and relief. She knew that she had to keep her feelings hidden, no matter how hard it was.

As the days turned into weeks, Emily's infatuation with Jack only grew stronger. She found herself wondering what it would be like to be with him, to hold his hand, to kiss him. She knew it was wrong, but she couldn't help herself.

But as much as Emily wanted to be with Jack, she knew it was impossible. He was her boss, and he was married. She was just a lowly employee, and she knew that she would never be able to compete with his wife.

As the months went by, Emily's feelings for Jack only grew stronger. She found herself wondering what it would be like to be with him, which felt like she was wishing for the impossible!
