This Is not a story about brokenness. This is a story about passion, love and redemption. My name is Maya and this is my redemption story.

I grew up with an absentee dad and a chaotic mum. She didn't care whether I was abused by the numerous men she brought in. I remember naming them. Bad breath, tall guy number one, cranky. Giving them names was one of my coping mechanisms. I needed to be brave for Adelyn. Adelyn was my kid sister, the reason why I stayed when I wanted to run away so badly. The reason why I endured every molestation without uttering a word.

Adelyn's father was better than mine, he managed to stay with mom for three years before he finally left one day, and never looked back. He had had enough of her bad habits. I liked that one, I really wish he took Adelyn along. He would have made a great dad. Sigh. After years of staying in a dysfunctional home, I took the bold step and left home, with Adelyn of course. It was one summer after school, mom was on his 10th boyfriend or so. He was one of the crannies. He never went to work, at least I didn't see him go to work. Adelyn mistakenly took his toast from the microwave after school. He hit her while I was upstairs changing. I remember seeing my five year old sister curled on the floor sobbing. All I could see was red, I didn’t realise when I took the bottle and hit his head with it until he went unconscious. I took my sister out of the house and we never looked back. I still wonder what happened to Mr. Cranky, and the woman who birthed me. "Hey, it's late, why are you still up? And why do you look so lost in thought" Tory asked. Tory is my husband, we've been married for 5 years now and counting. He's thr reason why I'm writing today, the reason why I've written so many more books. He's my consolation prize, for every trauma I went through. He is my person. " Nothing honey, I'm reminiscing and thinking how lucky I am to have you" I said as I became teary. "I'm lucky to have you too" he said as he placed an affectionate kiss on my shoulder. "I know" I said and we both smiled at each other, our eyes saying how much we feel for each other. I realised how young he still looked, like five years hadn't gone by already. Like we didn't have our amazing twin boys. It took me back to when we first met. It was one starless night and a very dry evening. A college boy with curly hair and a killer smile walked up to the bar with a couple of his friends. They looked so privileged and spoilt as they sat there talking down on women. I snickered at their uncouth and naive attitude, something which surprisingly caught his attention amidst all the noise he was making. I remember how minuted later everyone was out of the bar. It was later the owner informed me that he had booked the place for the whole night.

So they were really privileged I thought. I can't forget all the things I imagined I could've done with the money they were wasting. "He wants to see you after work" Mrs. Jimmy the owner of the bar informed. I didn't want to stay after hours but I couldn't lose my job either. Her work wasn't honorable but she was kind, she was the person who took Adelyn and II wasn't new to the job, if a client wanted you to stay you stayed and did whatever the hell they wanted you to do. I reluctantly went to room 221 as directed. I took of my dress as soon as I shut the door behind me. I needed to go home to Adelyn. "Woa! Easy, I just want to talk even though your proposal is very tempting " he said sizing me up and down. I stood there not knowing what to do. Well that was unexpected, I thought as the room went dead silent. What was his angle? I wondered. Little did I know this cocky, privileged college kid was my redemption.
