A Glimpse of Truth
Seeing a world through another's eyes.

The outside world was unknown to her, but she could see a glimpse of it through the window in his room.
It was a strange familiar feeling, as if she were looking in a mirror, but not at herself, not through her eyes.
She couldn’t help but hold her breath in disbelief. Could she really have seen what she thought and felt she did? How could it be so? It would change her whole view on reality.
She has looked in the mirror ever since she was old enough to care and never has she seen herself the way he did.
When she got a glimpse of herself through his window, she saw strength, a different kind of beauty. One that was foreign to her.
Beauty… what she had learned, was glamorous, perfect. Something she could never attain. She tried so hard her whole life to see herself the way he saw her in that glimpse….
That changed her view on the outside world. Suddenly, she wanted to go outside. She wanted to enjoy the confidence she had just gained before it dissipated.
What she saw through his window was optimism, and beautiful days filled with laughter and freedom from the burdens of the mind. Her mind…
Her mind was like a dark cruel inner critic constantly telling her she was a nobody. It told her bad things and convinced her nobody would ever love her. The voice convinced her that people just use others, all the while, judging them, and finding reasons to leave. Seeing through eyes that only see abandonment is a dark lonely place.
She knew the glimpse was just that, a brief peek. Within a day or two that peek into this world would soon fade away, leaving her back in her dark, cold existence.
She just had to find a way to make that world her own! She went to work on making another potion. One that would allow her to see through his eyes indefinitely. Now that she knows the first spell worked just as she had hoped, she just had to make it stronger, change the words a little bit and wah-lah!!
There was one problem. Once she took his vision of her and of the world, he would be left with hers. He would see her the way she saw herself. He would never love her!!! His world would become cold and bleak. He wouldn’t be able to cope with such feelings. It would be cruel and extremely selfish.
She just couldn’t do that to him. She was lucky enough to at least see what he sees when he looks at her. She would lose his love and his beautiful loving soul. She wanted them both to live free of insecurity and depression. She realized that she had only known those feelings her whole life. She wouldn’t know what to do with such freedom. She would probably just turn it into something similar to her life now.
She decided to be grateful for the fact that just because she can’t love herself at least there were others that saw she was deserving of it. She declared her mind a liar and decided to ignore the voices. Instead, she would look lovingly into his eyes, as he would gaze lovingly back into hers. In that moment, the window opened up and became a permanent view they could both enjoy together.
Glimpses are a wonderful thing. They show us that there is more out there than we know. We just have to look for it. Not just in the world, as we see it, but in ourselves as well.
