“A Brother’s Rope – Stronger Than Fear”

By New stAr writer Published 4 months ago 3 min read

(A Heart-Touching Tale)

Life in the village was simple, yet filled with mysteries of its own. Farmers worked in the fields, cattle bells echoed in the distance, and at night people gathered in the square to share stories. But one day, something happened that left the entire village in fear.

The Mystery of the Well

In the center of the village stood an old well. For years, people had been drawing water from it without any trouble. But suddenly, whenever someone lowered a bucket into it, the bucket would disappear, and only the rope came back up.

At first, the villagers thought the ropes were weak, but the repeated vanishing of buckets puzzled everyone. Soon fear took over, and whispers began:

“There must be a demon inside this well who devours the buckets!”

Even the bravest villagers avoided passing by the well at night. Women would take longer routes out of fear. The village was restless, until an announcement was made:

“Whoever uncovers the mystery of this well shall be rewarded.”

The Condition

Hearing this, a young man stepped forward. He was known for his courage and wisdom. He said,

“I do not need any reward. But for the sake of the villagers, I am ready to risk my life and reveal the truth.”

People admired his bravery. But he added a strange condition:

“I will only go down the well if my brother is among those holding the rope.”

The villagers were surprised. Someone asked,

“Why this condition?”

The young man replied,

“Because if something strange happens, the others will surely run away in fear. But my brother—he will never let go of me.”

Though there was bitterness between the brothers for a long time, his brother quietly stepped forward, took hold of the rope, and stood firm.

Descent into Darkness

The rope was tied tightly, and the young man sat in a bucket as he was lowered down. The deeper he went, the colder and darker it became. Finally, he reached the bottom and saw what had been causing the mystery all along.

There, at the base of the well, sat a mischievous monkey. Every time a bucket touched the water, the monkey would swiftly untie the rope and let the bucket sink.

The young man checked his pocket and found a piece of jaggery. He offered it to the monkey, who immediately became friendly and climbed onto his shoulder. The mystery was solved—it was not a demon, but a playful creature.

Fear Above

The young man tugged the rope to signal the people above. The villagers began pulling with all their strength. Slowly, the bucket rose out of the darkness toward the light.

But as soon as the bucket came close to the top, the villagers saw the monkey sitting on his shoulder. Panic spread.

“It’s a monster! It has eaten him and climbed up!” they screamed.

Terrified, they dropped the rope and ran away. Everyone—except one man.

A Brother’s Love

One pair of hands still held the rope tightly, trembling but determined. It was his brother.

With all his strength, he pulled until the bucket reached the edge. The young man climbed out safely. He placed the monkey on the ground and revealed the truth to everyone.

“This little creature was untying the buckets. There was no demon, no magic. But do you see why I made my brother a condition? Because when fear came, all of you ran away. But only my brother held on.”

The villagers lowered their heads in shame. They realized that in times of hardship, many may abandon you—but blood relations, especially a brother, never do.

The Lesson

The young man freed the monkey and turned to the people:

“Remember this: people may praise you, spend time with you, even walk beside you for a while. But when true trials come, most will leave. Only your brother will stand firm. A brother is the rope that will not let you fall, no matter how deep the well of darkness.”

From that day onward, the village changed. Quarrels among brothers were settled, and people began to value their blood ties. Everyone realized that money, friends, and praise may return—but once a brother is lost, that bond can never be replaced.

Moral

This story teaches us that no relationship in the world compares to that of a brother. The world may abandon you, but a brother will hold on until the end. Value them, cherish them—because once they are gone, nothing can bring them back.

A brother will always remain a brother.
