My pain now forgotten, replaced only by the murdering intentions of vengeance and revenge, I too ran as if the devil himself were chasing me.

Nathan kept looking back as the distance between us got less and less. The snow was still high on the ground, the day clear, fallen trees, branches and twigs hindered our flight. He fell, jumped up and tried to run again.

Then that damnable bear emerged from behind some trees. Nathan was trapped between me and the enormous creature. That bear would not deny me my rightful justice. I shot it twice, it went down hard, not dead, just incapacitated. I hoped it would not die, two young cubs could be seen playing in the distance.

I grabbed the murderer and a bloody fight raged for a long time. Miriam had chosen me. He never got over it.

I beat him until I could go no more. Another bear was closing in on us. I grabbed Nathan and threw him in between the romping bear cubs. If I calculated right, this was the momma bear tearing towards us. I hurriedly hid behind a huge tree.

Weak, bloody and unable to run, he raised his hands as the massive bear bit into his neck, its claws gripping and lifting the screaming Nathan high into the air.

He had lured my son to his death. This bear which almost killed me had now become my instrument of revenge and retribution.

I now go to find my son!!!!!

    Agree with Randy!!! Well done!

  • A fitting & satisfying conclusion to the story. At least somewhat satisfying. I mean, nothing can ever satisfy for the loss of a beloved child.

  • I'm a little confused. How would he find his son if his son is dead?

  • A dark story that is well written.
