I stare at my screen, then quickly type;

6:01 pm

EMMA: Haha cool

I have no idea why I type that, it's just the first thing that comes to mind.

6:01 pm

UNKNOWN: ???

6:02 pm

UNKNOWN: I'll see you tomorrow. Question is, will you see me?

I stare at my phone and decide not to respond. Instead, I go back to watching some videos on my computer.

The rest of the day goes by smoothly.

***

The doorbell rings.

"I'll get it!" I yell, pausing the movie that I was watching on my computer, then running down the stairs.

I open the door.

"Hey, sis. Mind if I come in?" Andrew says, ruffling my hair.

I swat at his hand and glare at him, then smile and open the door. "Come on, Andy! Come inside!"

He laughs and walks on in.

Mom walks out from her bedroom, carefully watching Andrew. "Andrew.. what are you doing? Why didn't you just let yourself in? You know you're welcome any time..."

I study Mom, then my big bro.

"Well, Mom, I didn't know that. I needed to talk with Emma because she hasn't been answering her phone all day."

I glance at the clock.

9:48 pm

"Oh...sorry. I got so caught up in watching things on my computer...I forgot about my phone." I apologize.

He studies me. "Don't you always have your phone on?"

"Silent when I watch some things."

"You mean that stupid anime." He rolls his eyes. "You have to stop watching that. You'll ruin your eyesight, and then need glasses."

"Enough, Andrew. Leave my daughter alone. If she needs anything, I'll be there for her. You don't have to do anything."

I stare at Mom.

What is going on? Mom loves Andy. Why is she being like this?

Andrew sighs. "Can I talk with Emma alone for a few minutes?"

Mom watches him for a while, then sighs. "Fine. But hurry. Emma has to go to bed soon. She has school tomorrow." She turns and walks back into her room.

He turns to me. "Emma, earlier while we were talking, you mentioned a boy. May I ask who he was?"

My eyebrows knit together. "Umm... James. Why? He's cute. I think he likes me. We could be friends!"

Andrew's eyes widen. "James? Like... James....tall, black hair, black hat, green eyes, usually wears dark sunglasses?"

What? How'd he know? Is James super popular?! So cool!

"That's him! He came up to me yesterday and asked why I was-"

"Hold on." He cuts me off. "No. Stay away from him."

"But we could be friends."

"Emma, I said no. Now if you're smart, you'll listen to me. Okay? Please just stay away from him."

I grumble, "Fine."

What is it with Andrew? He's always supportive. He always wants me to make friends. So why won't he let me make a friend now? It can't be James... could it? No, it can't be.

"Thank you. Now, I really have to go."

I watch him slowly walk out of the house, not bothering to look back.

*****

The song Let It Go plays, waking me from my slumber.

I yawn and turn off my alarm.

Another bright and sunny day!

I look out the window and notice that it's pouring outside.

Well...rain is very lovely. I can work with that!
