> Something is wrong with the girl.
She looks like her, smells like her, but she moves differently. Heavy.
The light and gracefulness she used to portray are missing. She holds me oddly, like her hands forgot where my ribs are.
Her caresses are cold and rough, usually soft and warm.
She calls for me like an echo, long and drawn out. As if she is trying too hard.
She comes home in the early evening, not her usual time to come through the door.
The sun no longer hits the same spot on the couch, the place I’d lounge for warmth.
It’s cold now.
The large mirror reflected the hallway, cascading into the bedroom. It shows something else now.
Darkness. Black.
At night, she used to sit in the living room and read in a creaky rocking chair. She still sits, but it makes no sound.
Once I hissed at her, and she didn’t even flinch. Instead, she smiled. Her eyes looked different, sharp and snake-like. The look I’ve seen on predators before they pounce on their prey.
I stopped eating, though she still fills the bowl. It's overflowing.
The house is no longer mine, and I don’t think that's the girl who loved me.
