Your Little Girl

It's my turn to be strong for you

By alexandria UrrutiaPublished 6 years ago Updated 4 years ago 3 min read

Daddy, remember all the times I came running to you when I got hurt? I called for you when I needed help getting up. Remember when I would follow you around like a little duckling? I would walk right behind you when you cut the grass. I was always outside with you by your side when you worked on the cars. I was out "helping" you all the time. I wanted to be just like you when I grew up. And I know you said you wanted me to be better than you, but to me you were and still are the best man I have ever met.

Daddy, do you remember all the times I cried and you held me close and told me everything was going to be alright? I would always listen to every word you said and took every single one to heart. I would be mad at the world or someone and you would come in with your dad logic and talk me down.

Do you remember when you taught me all those life lessons, about hard work, being respectful and taking pride in what we do? I still hear every word you said to me, and I try to instill those values every day of my life in every thing that I do. I try my hardest to help others in need. I try to always be respectful even to those who may not deserve it. Always be nice to those who may be having it worse. Never take things that I love for granted.

Daddy do you remember how you said family always comes first? That even if we are estranged to always be respectful. That we have to have each others' backs no matter what. That we are never fully alone when we go through tough times. That we have to be there when we are at our lowest lows. That we have to be strong for each other because it hurts and it sucks and we just want to give up, but the day keeps going and the world keeps moving. Time doesn't wait for anyone and thats why we need each other.

All of these lessons have made me into the person I am, all because of you daddy. Everything that you have done for me has made me who I am today.

So let me be the light in this suffocating darkness. Let me be your security rope as you stare into the abyss. Let me be the one to carry this weight, at least for a little bit. Let me be the shoulder you can rest on. I will be strong for you like all those times you held me upright. Let me show you what you have made me into. Let me be the one to offer you solace. Let me show you how strong I can be for the both of us. I will always be your lil punkin, but I am also a warrior. I am strong enough to hold us both. I will protect you while you let your heart bleed. I will watch your back always as we both go through this hard time. Let me hold your hand tight like you did all those years ago. Let me remind you how strong we are.

Things are hard. I know you can image how I am feeling, but I can't possibly understand how you are feeling. I know she is the most important woman in your life. All I can give you is a small smile and my hand to guide you. I will be there night and day. I will always be by your side.

I love you daddy and she will forever be in you and in me.

I love you daddy for now and forever.

I love you daddy, my hero.
