Haven't made your vacation plans yet? Then it's the perfect time to pack your bags and set off on a journey through Romania! Our country has everything you could want: breathtakingly beautiful landscapes, cities full of history, authentic villages where traditions are sacredly preserved, delicious food and welcoming people.

With six cultural sites and two natural sites included in the UNESCO World Heritage List, Romania is a true open-air museum. You can explore the painted churches of Moldova, the Transylvanian villages with fortified churches, the Dacian fortresses of the Orastie Mountains, the medieval atmosphere of Sighisoara or the wooden churches of Maramures. Nature lovers can enjoy the spectacular Danube Delta or the centuries-old and virgin beech forests of the Carpathians.

Here are the most beautiful places to visit in Romania. Whether you're looking for the most important tourist attractions in Romania, or planning your itinerary with places to visit for your next vacation, our country has plenty of gorgeous places to choose from.

Danube Delta

The Danube Delta is one of the most impressive natural wonders, and certainly a place of the soul for many Romanians. If you haven't been here yet, you shouldn't miss a vacation here before you make up your mind about the natural beauty of your homeland. This vast delta is home to over 300 species of birds and fish. The wildlife, picturesque landscapes, water rides, delicious food and impressive vegetation are just a few of the reasons why you should come here at least once in your life.

➡️If I haven't convinced you yet, here are some interesting things that you probably haven't found out yet:

➡️It is the second largest river delta in Europe, after the Volga Delta in Russia.

➡️Here you can see pelicans, cormorants and several other species of ducks and geese

➡️It is an important migratory stopover for many species of migratory birds

➡️It is part of the UNESCO World Heritage and is protected by Romanian legislation to preserve its unique ecological value.

➡️There are several ecotourism villages located in the Delta, where you can stay with locals and experience local gastronomy at relatively low prices.

Transfăgărășan

Besides its obvious beauty, the Transfagarasan Highway also has great historical significance. Built between 1970 and 1974, this road was Nicolae Ceaușescu’s “solution” to ensure a safe route over the Fagaras Mountains in case of a Soviet invasion. Six million kilograms of dynamite were used and over 40 workers died, and the communist leader saw his dream come true: a secret passage.

In 2009, Jeremy Clarkson, on the show Top Gear, “designated the Transfagarasan as the best road in the world.” Since then, drivers and nature lovers from all over the world have come to explore it.

Maramureș

Maramures is a place where time seems to have stood still. Known for its well-preserved traditions, its wooden churches included in the UNESCO World Heritage List and the warm hospitality of the locals, Maramures offers an authentic insight into Romanian village life.

What to see in Maramures?

➡️The Merry Cemetery in Săpânța, a unique attraction in the world, where colorful crosses and funny inscriptions tell the stories of those who have passed away.

➡️The wooden churches, architectural masterpieces dating back to the 17th-18th centuries, will impress you with their simplicity and beauty.

➡️The Mocănița on the Vaser Valley, a picturesque journey on a steam train that takes you through spectacular mountain landscapes.

Sighisoara

Discover the main attractions and tourist attractions of Sighisoara! We guarantee that you will be transported back in time and will be able to see history with your own eyes through the impressive exhibitions around the Transylvanian city.

Here are the must-sees when you come to Sighisoara:

At the top of the tourist attractions in Sighișoara is the Citadel Square, a magical place that has been at the center of the community for hundreds of years and carries with it half a millennium of significant events for the Transylvanian area.

Once a place where all the important activities of the medieval fortress took place, from trial to trade, today its historical charm has transformed it into an ideal attraction for tourists.

For those passionate about history and beyond, you should check out the list of tourist attractions to visit in Sighișoara and the Casa Breslelor exhibition

It hosts an exhibition of tools, equipment and machinery used over 100 years ago by Saxon craftsmen from Sighișoara and the surrounding area.

Brașov

Brașov and Poiana Brașov are some of the most popular tourist destinations in the country, especially for family stays, and the reason is simple – no matter the age of the children, you will find something suitable for them, as well as activities that you can participate in together.

Here are the most popular destinations suitable for parents and children in the Brașov area:

Spiritul Cailor – Located in Poiana Brașov, the Spiritul Cailor riding center is the place where you can enjoy an affordable horseback riding session under expert supervision. Even though it is a favorite attraction for children, the experience is available to visitors of all ages.

Paradisul Acvatic – Even if you go “to the mountains”, you can enjoy a day spent at an aqua park with six indoor pools, outdoor pools, as well as slides, the favorites of children, and a relaxation grotto and jacuzzi, approved by parents.

From the charm of medieval fortresses to vibrant, cosmopolitan city centers, Romania is home to fascinating cities that impress with a combination of history, culture, architecture, and fairytale landscapes.
