Who are Eligible for Aged Dependent Relative Visa 114 and How to Apply for it?

Requirements for Aged Dependent Relative Visa

Applicants at least 18 years old and with family members who live in Australia can apply for an Aged Dependent Relative visa 114 to allow the older person to remain permanently in Australia.

To be eligible, applicants must meet both of the following requirements: they must be sponsored by their Australian family member, and they must also meet health and character requirements. You can apply online for this visa if you meet these requirements.

What is Aged Dependent Relative visa 838?

The Aged Dependent Relative Visa (subclass 804) allows Australian citizens and permanent residents to sponsor their parents, grandparents, or other relatives to move to Australia and live with them permanently. The Aged Dependent Relative visa 838 is open to married and single people, so the entire family can be together in one place.

This is one of several family-based visas offered by Australia, providing a pathway to permanent residency. This visa allows those aged 65 or over who are not working and do not have relatives in Australia willing or able to support them financially to live with their family here in Australia.

Eligibility criteria

You must be nominated by your parent or sibling as their dependent child to be eligible. To do so, they must either be settled in Australia or have applied for a permanent residence visa before their 50th birthday, and you must be under 18 years of age.

Additionally, your sponsor and all family members on their application must also be Australian citizens or permanent residents. The dependent relative that is being sponsored cannot have any ties to Australia before applying, such as having resided in Australia previously.

In some cases (such as if you were sponsored under a refugee visa), it may not be possible for you and your family members to become Australian citizens or permanent residents before applying.

If multiple sponsors are listed on your application, they must meet specific criteria:

• They must be at least 18 years old

• They can’t already have another spouse or de facto partner living with them

• They can’t already sponsor someone else through another type of visa.

If you’re sponsoring a child who isn’t your own, both parents must consent to the sponsorship.
