What are the criteria for choosing a book?
Choosing a Book

Reading is one of the ways to get information from the past to the present. Humankind has continued to learn by reading for ages. That's why people have always needed books, which are the basic material of reading. But which book is worth reading? This is a confusing question. Some people express that they have difficulty choosing a book. Some complain about not finding the right book. Becasuse new books are published every day and the number of books is constantly increasing. It is not possible for people to catch up with the increasing number of books. It is impossible for people to read every published book. That's why the ability to choose a book is very important. There are many different criteria that people use when choosing a book to read. These criteria can vary depending on personal preferences. Here are some common criteria that people may consider when choosing a book:
- Genre: People may choose a book based on the genre, such as science fiction, romance, mystery, or non-fiction. Many literary genres are published today. Therefore, it is necessary to be careful in genre-oriented selections. When choosing a book, taking into account not only the genre but also other criteria allows you to reach a better book.
- Author: People may choose a book based on the author, such as if they have enjoyed previous works by that author or if the author is well-respected in their field. Preferring the works of classical authors can be a risk-free choice.
- Recommendation: People may choose a book based on recommendations from friends, family, or online sources. It's a practical idea to visit blogs with book reviews and recommendations. It can make your job easier to browse the reader comments before buying a book or when you determine the book you want to buy.
- Reviews: People may choose a book based on positive reviews they have read, either in a book review publication or online. For example, you can see the best books on Amazon and read the reviews. People can access the customers' review, and global ratings of books. This information can help them decide which book to read.
- Plot Summary: People may choose a book based on the plot summary, to see if the story interests them or if it aligns with their personal values or beliefs. Therefore, before buying a book, summaries about the book can be reviewed. However, sometimes this situation can hurt the curiosity of the readers as it gives important information about the book.
- Length: People may choose a book based on its length, either wanting a short read or a longer, more immersive experience. But length is a relative concept. Frankly, I suggest ignoring the length. Because some long books attract our attention, we read them in a few days. When some short books don't interest us, we can't finish them for weeks.
- Availability: People may choose a book based on its availability, either in physical bookstores, online retailers, or through their local library.
- Price: People may choose a book based on the price, either looking for a bargain or willing to spend more for a high-quality or highly anticipated book.
These are just some of the criteria that people might consider when choosing a book, and there are many other factors that can come into play as well. It is possible to increase or decrease the criteria for book selection. Because reading is a personal choice. However, considering these criteria may help us to make more accurate choices. Ultimately, the best criteria for choosing a book will depend on the reading habits.
