Wendy's Come Through For The Homeless

Wendy's donated five $5gift cards for me to give out to the homeless. Wendy's cares about the community that is for sure.

Why I Asked To Buy The Gift Cards

This is the time of year, gearing up towards the holidays, that I start to drift back in time.

I started thinking about my oldest son, who was also my very best friend. Rick was such a kind hearted soul in his short life time. He was always for the long shot, the under dog. The person who was down on his luck.

After His Murder I Learned Things I Never Knew About My Son

Well I know what you are thinking, that I found out my son was not the nice guy I thought he was. But you would be wrong about that,

I knew he was kind, I just did not know how he affected the community we lived in.

Rick Was A Restaurant Manager

Yes, he wasm and he was a good one at that. He also cooked at his restaurants, and he helped his employees and I did not know this about my son, but he also helped members of the community as well.

He was known to reach in his own pocket and buy a homeless person a meal, that came in his restaurant and wanted to mop the floor for a meal, because they were hungry. When the homeless person asked to mop the floor, Rick replied that he had a porter to do that, and he assured the person the meal was already paid for. One person asked if he could do something for the restaurant, and Rick told him, my mother always told me to pass the goodwill along.

So if you think your children are not listening, most of the time they are.

This Is What I Found Out On The Streets Of Delaware

I guess you could say, I found out who my son really when I went out on the streets to find his killer. I thought I knew him, but I didn't know who he really was. I thought he was a great son, and I loved him, however, that didn't nearly scrape the surface of his character.

Two Separate Incidents Led Me To Ask For A Humanitarian Effort

These incidents will take another article in itself, however, it was these two efforts that made me realize the young man I raised was an exceptional young man.

That Led Me To As Wendy's Of Dover Delaware To Give Me A Military Discount

My husband Ricks step-father is retired military, and this time of year, I do memorials in Rick's name. So this year, because it was a cause near and dear to Rick, I asked Wendy's if they gave a military discount and they did, but not on gift cards.

I wanted to purchase five gift cards to be given out to the homeless, for that was a cause Rick held close to his heart.

I talked to the District Manager Jordan, and he said he would honor the military discounts for the gift cards.

When My Husband Went To Pick Them Up

The lady had the five Wendy's gift cards secured by a rubber band. Attached to the gift cards was a note -----"Already Paid For".

So when you think that there is not any kind or caring people in the world, you just might be wrong about that.

I gave them out to 5 homeless people standing at intersections, and I told the recipients that they were donated by Wendy's of Dover, Delaware, the town that they were given out in.

Rick sounds like he was such an incredible person, and it’s amazing how much of his kindness is still impacting people. The way you’re continuing to honor him is so powerful. That moment with Wendy’s already covering the gift cards gave me chills. Thank you for sharing this.

This is a great story that must have been hard to tell—well done, Susan. Congratulations on your award; it is well deserved if for nothing else, the bravery of telling your story about your son.

This story beautifully highlights the power of kindness and community. It’s heartwarming to see how Wendy’s stepped in to support the effort, honoring Rick’s legacy of generosity and compassion. It’s a reminder that even the smallest acts of kindness—like a meal or a gift card—can make a big difference in someone’s life. Truly inspiring!
