Two Fires
The Two Fires I Lived Through
During Fire Trailer 12
From my memory, I was young enough to care about things I did not know could be replaced. I estimate I may have been between 2 and 4 years old.
I was playing in my room when the fire broke out. An adult came to grab me to get me out of the house. I said, "I gotta save my dollies." The adult said, "we can replace your dollies, but we can't replace you." Then the adult picked me up and carried me out of the house.
After Fire Trailer 12
I remember after the fire, the fire inspector came in and did a fire investigation. The investigation is unclear in my memory, however, I have flashbacks that I am unsure how much is true in. During my flashbacks of the event, I see someone from the fire department saying, "we found a girl in the wall behind the hot water heater, and she appears to be about the same age as the girl who was pulled from the fire alive. This girl looked like she was hidden in the wall at least a week." I am not sure if the girl in the wall part was in my head or if that part really happened. If you want to look into it further, the fire was in East China, Michigan, in the early to mid 90's.
I don't remember the exact year or my exact age. It had to have been after 1992 because I was born in 1992.
Before & During Fire Apartment Port Huron
This was the morning of my 3rd birthday. There are several different versions of this story that float around the family, but most of the people changing the story were not actually there. This story starts early in the morning, when I tried to wake up my mom. I walked into her room, and I said, "mom I'm hungry." She said, "go back to bed, it's only 4 in the morning." I said, "but mom, I'm hungry." She again told me to go back to bed. I went into the kitchen. I started making breakfast, as to what I was making is the part that everyone seems to have a different story on. I've heard almost everything from oatmeal, to toast, to eggs. My own mother said eggs which actually makes the most sense since it needed to be cooked on the stove. I set off the fire alarm. The fire department was already right down stairs with a medical emergency, so the only thing lost was the kitchen, and the deposit on the apartment.
After Fire Apartment Port Huron
Later in the day, after the apartment fire, my mother was evicted. We were at the grocery store shopping, when she was told about the eviction, at the same time I was begging for something she could not afford to buy. I was really too young to know that my mom could not afford something. I had no concept of money at that age. She smacked me on the face, had a mental break down, and then she left me on my so-called dad's door step. She checked herself into a mental facility (at least that's what she claims) and she was gone from my life for close to a year. We had not heard from her and were unable to contact her. Little did she know that would change our relationship forever. For more information on her leaving please read "Daddy's Little Wake Up Call."
