THE VALUE OF THE LETTER "Q"

A Short Essay By: Char Wilcox

Note: This is not an official Essay, I'm sharing it because it makes me giggle to have written such a silly piece. Oh the things we will do as parents to help our children along.

I hope you enjoy the read and share this silly quip with others who might enjoy the giggle and poor qualities!

Thank You, Enjoy.

I am starting this 500 word essay to beat my son to The WOW gold.

Surprised I am doing this? Indeed I am but I wanted to show him how quick and easy it was to rattle off an essay. I was looking for word count on this new system so I can keep track of the mumbo-jumbo I was writing about the letter " Q", however, it was taking too long and I couldn't find it anywhere in my toolbox that he said I had. Now this is going to take a while longer because I'm going to have to stop and count the words. Quite a bit longer because I get easily distracted by things like my family and fresh coffee. Oh and trying to find the save button!

I however, do call query as to why there is no reason in the first paragraph, that values the letter “Q”. After re-reading the paragraph, I find I used Q in the word "quite". I would not have been able to do that without Q. In reading the "Wibster's Dictionary", as found on the series Dilbert by Scott Adams, I find the value of the letter Q is quite low. It has combined the distinguished letter space of "Q" with the letter "R" giving it no unique dictionary space of it's own. Perhaps if we quadruple the amount of Q words, they would have their own space. That is really nothing to quibble about because it is easy enough to find, if you know your alphabet.

Now that I am a quarter of the way through this essay, I should actually make some valid points regarding the letter Q. What exactly is the qualification to finding a valid point to determine the value of Q?

What if the letter Q did not exist? Let's explore:

What would Sesame Street talk about on the "Q" day and how would they determine what number to be paired with the random letter Q? When the happy little Sesame Street children sing the alphabet what would they sing for the 17th letter of the alphabet? Would we just have to skip it altogether and move on to "R"?

The value here is not having to rewrite the alphabet song and upset people by the quadrillion.

While on this quest of finding the value of the letter Q, I have discovered some new words as well as laughed at some of the already known ones.

What would a duck be without a quack? Would they be floating around saying "ack, ack, ack" to each other? how funny would that sound?

What would Quaint be without the Q? It would be nothing because you would be left with aint. We all know that ain't, ain't a word.

What would we do with our Queen? Would she just be ueen?

Long Live the Ueen.

I did find in the dictionary that quaff means: to swallow in large drafts: to drink. So let's have a quaff and thinks about quantum questions.

I think I'm closer to the Quantum of this essay, I must reflect on the things I have written so far I was not being a quipster when I mentioned the mumbo-jumbo in the beginning.

A sassy report should be expected with my quirks.

As seriously as I was trying to do this project, I can't quite quit with sarcasm. It makes me quiver with excitement.

I must now go and take care of my quotidian quest in the game WOW.

The Letter Q is quite quizzical with it's curly que shape and beautiful sound. It is a needed member of the English alphabet!

I leave on this last remark without the letter Q we'd all be quaked!

Having a look again at this essay in 2020 I Must Insist on adding the word

Quarantine to the list now, as it is a word the world knows all too well. The Quarantine time of Covid-19 during the year of 2020 was felt globally as we are going through a global pandemic. I hope you are safe and well.
