The Little Tree and the Blue Bird

Magic Happens When You Believe in Yourself

"I've kept my word little blue bird and I did as I said, now well you make me your home and rest your nest upon my head?"

There once was a tree who stood all alone.

"I'm so sad that I'm alone. I wish somebody would make me their home!"

His branches were long, but not very strong, you see. For he's still a growing boy...he only stood 5 foot 3.

One day a blue bird flew by.

"Oh, make me your home, pretty bird in the sky!", the little tree shouted. "I have plenty of branches for a nest to lie!"

The blue bird stopped flying and took a look at the tree.

"You are a growing boy, and you look as healthy as can be, but sadly you just don’t have enough leaves for me, to protect my whole family.", said the bird.

I will make more leaves! You will see, and then you can build a nest upon me, and I will protect you and your family!" Exclaimed the tree.

"I need strong branches to hold us all, not to mention, you only stand 5 foot 3 inches tall. said the blue bird

"I'm a good tree, and I will grow big and strong! Just wait, you'll see! It won't be long! If you give me a chance, I will show you I'm right, I'll be the best home for you and keep you safe through the night!" the tree protested.

"Ok, let's make a deal, little tree, said the bird, because I believe you would be the perfect home for me and my whole family! I will give you months' time for you to grow and to reach your prime. Where you will be taller and a whole lot stronger and your leaves will be much, much longer!"

"You’ve got a deal, little bird!", exclaimed the tree

"I will not let you down, I give you my word! I WILL be the bestest tree, you'll see, little bird! I will be taller and my leaves will be longer, and I will become much, much stronger!!"

"Ok!", shouted the bird. "You have a deal! Now if you don’t mind, I need to fly off to find my next meal.

And with that the bird flew away.

The tree shouted as the bird flew out of sight:

"You will see that I am right, and you will feel safe in my branches all through the night!"

So, the tree, beaming with delight, started working hard right away to become the best tree in sight! Through his roots and up his trunk, he began taking in more food and water from the soil.

"My plan shall not foil!" thought the tree.

As days went by, seconds turned into minutes, and minutes turned into hours. The little tree grew stronger and stronger and even budded some flowers! With the sunlight and rain and plenty of air for his veins, his leaves grew longer, as he grew taller, bound and determined for his plan not to falter! And soon a months' time had gone by, and without a hitch, the blue bird came flying through the sky.

"My, my, my, look at what we have here! Could this be the same little tree, I left a month ago standing so bare?"

"Why yes, it is me, the same little tree! I grew taller and stronger and oh, look, even my leaves are much, much longer!"

"I've kept my word little blue bird and I did as I said, now will you make me your home and rest your nest upon my head?"

"I shall, I shall, oh how I shall! Me and you will forever be the bestest of pals! I WILL rest my nest upon your head, for me and my family, just like I said."

"Your leaves ARE longer, and your branches, they're definitely stronger, and OH MY, how you’ve grown a WHOLE lot taller!

"You are the bestest tree that I've seen and I KNOW you will protect me AND my whole family! I have to admit, tree, you were right. I know you will keep us all safe through the night!"

And the tree, as proud as he could be, smiled with delight, and kept his word, as he welcomed with open branches, all of the blue birds.

And they lived happily ever after as ONE whole family!
