The Language of Love

Two strangers find love in a foreign land

By akinjide ibrahimPublished 3 years ago 3 min read

Sarah had always been fascinated by different cultures and languages. She had studied linguistics in college and dreamed of traveling the world to learn more. When she landed a job teaching English in South Korea, she jumped at the chance. It was a completely new experience for her, and she was eager to immerse herself in the language and culture.

On her first day in Seoul, Sarah felt a bit lost. She didn't know anyone, and everything was so different from what she was used to back home. She struggled to find her way around the city and communicate with the locals. But despite the initial challenges, she was excited to be there.

One day, Sarah found herself in a small café in the heart of the city. She was trying to read a Korean newspaper and figure out what was happening in the world. The language was so complex, and she was having trouble understanding even the basic words. That's when she heard a voice from across the room.

"Excuse me, do you need any help?"

Sarah looked up to see a handsome young man smiling at her. He had a kind face and warm eyes, and she felt an instant connection with him.

"Yes, actually," she said, smiling back. "I'm trying to understand this newspaper, but it's all so confusing to me."

The man introduced himself as Jung-ho, and Sarah felt a rush of excitement as she heard his name. She had never met anyone with a Korean name before, and she was fascinated by the way it sounded.

Jung-ho offered to help Sarah with her Korean, and she eagerly accepted. They spent hours in the café, going over vocabulary and grammar, and Sarah felt like she was making progress for the first time since arriving in Korea.

As they talked, Sarah and Jung-ho realized that they had a lot in common. They both loved music and movies, and they shared a sense of humor that made them laugh uncontrollably. They started meeting regularly, exploring the city together and practicing their languages. Sarah felt like she had found a new home in Seoul, and Jung-ho was the reason for it.

One day, Sarah and Jung-ho went to a karaoke bar to sing some songs. Sarah was nervous, but Jung-ho encouraged her to try. She chose a popular Korean ballad, and as she sang, she felt like she was pouring her heart out. She didn't know all the words, but she felt the emotion behind the lyrics.

When she finished, she looked up to see Jung-ho staring at her with tears in his eyes. He took her hand and led her outside, away from the noise of the karaoke bar.

"Sarah," he said, his voice shaking. "I have to tell you something."

Sarah felt her heart pounding in her chest as she waited for Jung-ho to speak. She didn't know what he was going to say, but she felt like she was ready for anything.

"I've fallen in love with you," he said, his eyes locked on hers.

Sarah felt a surge of joy as she heard the words. She had been hoping that Jung-ho felt the same way she did, but she had been too afraid to ask.

"I love you too," she said, smiling through her tears.

From that moment on, Sarah and Jung-ho were inseparable. They spent their days exploring Seoul, trying new foods, and learning each other's languages. They spoke a mixture of Korean and English, and Sarah loved the way Jung-ho's accent sounded when he spoke her language.

Eventually, Sarah's time in Korea came to an end, and she had to return home to the United States. It was one
