The Kind-Hearted Friend

Story No. 1687

By Sudais ZakwanPublished about 9 hours ago 3 min read

In a lush forest, there lived a troop of monkeys. Among this troop were two young monkeys who were notorious for their mischievous behavior. Their constant pranks and antics had even exhausted their parents, who often scolded them for their wildness. In the same forest, there was a young giraffe, a gentle and innocent creature, known for his simplicity and good nature. One day, while grazing on the green grass, the young giraffe wandered into a part of the forest where the mischievous monkey duo was busy plucking leaves and fruits from the trees to eat.

When the two little monkeys spotted the giraffe, they were both fascinated and surprised. They had never seen an animal like him before. One monkey whispered to the other, “Look at this strange creature! Let’s tease him.” Without hesitation, the two monkeys climbed the nearby tree and positioned themselves above the giraffe, who was obliviously eating leaves beneath them.

From the tree branch, they called down, “Hey, long-necked! What’s your name?”

The giraffe responded softly, with a friendly tone, “I am Giraffe. Will you be my friends? And may I know your names?”

The monkeys, with their usual mischief, burst into laughter and mocked him. “Friends? Why would we ever want to be friends with someone so odd? Look at your long neck and your ladder-like legs. We won’t be friends with a creature so ridiculous!”

Then, one monkey plucked a ripe fruit from the tree and hurled it at the giraffe. The fruit struck his mouth, breaking open and covering his face in pulp and juice. The monkeys laughed uncontrollably at the sight and hopped away gleefully, leaving the poor giraffe embarrassed and sad, his head hung low as he walked away.

Some days later, the same two mischievous monkeys decided to venture deep into the forest for an adventurous day alone. Early in the morning, while the rest of their troop slept, they sneaked away. After wandering for some time, they grew hungry and began picking fruits from the trees to eat. The freedom and thrill of their adventure delighted them.

By midday, they climbed the lush branches of a tree to escape the heat. Beneath that tree, however, lay a lion resting in the shade. The monkeys were so absorbed in their playful exploration that they initially failed to notice the lion. Only when the lion roared to shoo away flies from its face did they finally spot it.

Driven by their mischievous nature, the monkeys whispered and plotted another prank. They broke off a fruit and dropped it straight onto the lion’s nose. The lion roared in anger, looking around wildly, and eventually spotted the two monkeys laughing atop the branches. Enraged, the lion leaped toward the tree.

The first leap of the lion didn’t reach the branch where the monkeys sat. It leapt again, closing in with terrifying speed. The monkeys clung to each other in sheer panic, their previous mischief forgotten.

Just as hopelessness began to overwhelm them, a gentle voice echoed in their ears: “Do not be afraid! I will get you both out of here. Quietly, climb onto my back using my neck.” Peeking through the leaves above, they saw the giraffe they had teased days earlier. The same giraffe who had endured their mockery was now ready to save them. The monkeys lowered their eyes in shame. Without hesitation, the giraffe instructed, “Quickly, climb onto my back. If the lion sees me, it will attack all three of us.”

Once safely on the ground, the giraffe gently reminded the monkeys, “Do you remember how you mocked my long neck and legs? Today, those very features saved your lives. My height allowed me to see you from afar and rescue you, and my long legs helped me run fast to escape the lion

The monkeys, humbled by the giraffe’s generosity, apologized sincerely. “We deliberately teased you before. From now on, we promise never to bully or mock anyone. You will be our best friend,” they said.

The giraffe’s forgiveness and kindness deeply impressed the monkeys. From that day onward, they played together happily, learning lessons in humility, friendship, and the value of kindness. The mischievous duo never again harassed anyone and cherished the gentle giraffe as a true and loyal friend.
