The Hypocrisy of it all!
Why Can't Christians Teach Their Children the Gospel?

The Double Standard in Child Education
Imagine a world where instructing your children about love, compassion, and salvation is met with disdain, while promoting other beliefs and lifestyles is celebrated as progress. This is the reality many Christian parents face today. As they strive to pass on Biblical truths and the Gospel of Jesus Christ to their children, they encounter a societal and governmental bias that not only criticizes but often restricts their efforts. Meanwhile, secular ideologies and teachings about LGBTQ issues and other religions are encouraged and legally protected in schools. This article explores the glaring double standard, acknowledges the prophetic insights from the Book of Revelation about these times, and calls for a fair and balanced approach to children's education.
What is Indoctrination?
Indoctrination is a term loaded with negative connotations. It suggests the imposition of beliefs on someone, often without encouraging critical thinking or open discussion. When applied to religious teachings, the term is frequently used pejoratively. However, indoctrination is not limited to religion; it encompasses any systematic instruction of beliefs or doctrines.
The Historical Context of Indoctrination
Indoctrination is not a new phenomenon. Historically, societies have always used various means to instill values and beliefs in the younger generation. Whether through religious education, cultural traditions, or nationalistic propaganda, every society has engaged in some form of indoctrination. The difference today lies in the selective criticism of religious teachings, particularly those of Christianity.
Biblical Perspective on Teaching Children
The Bible clearly instructs parents to teach their children about God's laws and the path of righteousness. Proverbs 22:6 states, "Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not depart from it." Deuteronomy 6:6-7 commands, "These commandments that I give you today are to be on your hearts. Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up." These scriptures underscore the responsibility and importance placed on parents to guide their children spiritually.
The Public's Perception
Critics frequently argue that Christian parents are too rigid in teaching their children Biblical truths. They claim that Christian values restrict children's freedom to explore other beliefs and ideologies, portraying Christian indoctrination as intellectual and emotional confinement.
Legal and Social Challenges
The challenges faced by Christian parents are not just social but also legal. There have been instances where parents have faced lawsuits or threats of losing custody over their children due to their insistence on teaching Christian doctrines. Policies in some educational institutions explicitly prohibit religious teachings, labeling them as divisive or intolerant. This legal landscape creates a hostile environment for Christian families, pushing them to either conform to secular norms or face potential legal repercussions.
The Hypocrisy of Comparison
The hypocrisy becomes evident when we compare the criticism of Christian indoctrination with the acceptance of secular and other religious teachings. While Christian parents are often demonized for sharing their faith, secular ideologies and teachings about LGBTQ issues and other religions are actively promoted and protected under the banner of diversity and inclusion.
One of the most prominent examples of secular indoctrination is the LGBTQ curriculum introduced in schools. Programs designed to teach children about sexual orientation, gender identity, and related topics are increasingly common. These curricula are often presented as necessary for fostering an inclusive and accepting environment. However, they also introduce complex and potentially controversial ideas to children at a young age, sometimes without parental consent.
Teaching Other Religions
In the name of cultural diversity, schools also introduce teachings about various world religions. While this can be beneficial for fostering understanding and tolerance, it often occurs at the expense of Christian teachings. Parents may find that their children are learning about Islam, Hinduism, Buddhism, and other faiths, while Christian teachings are either minimized or excluded entirely. This selective approach highlights the double standard in educational content.
Legal Protections and Social Acceptance
The promotion of LGBTQ ideologies and other religions is not only accepted but also legally protected. Anti-discrimination laws ensure that these teachings are included in school curricula and that opposing them is met with legal consequences. This protection contrasts sharply with the restrictions placed on Christian teachings, creating an environment where secular ideologies are privileged over religious beliefs.
Comparing Treatment of Different Beliefs
The double standard becomes clear when we compare how different beliefs are treated. Christian parents are often accused of indoctrination and face significant societal pushback for teaching their faith. In contrast, secular and other religious teachings are endorsed and even mandated by educational policies. This inconsistency reveals a bias that undermines the principle of religious freedom and equality.
Impact on Christian Families
The impact of this double standard on Christian families is profound. Parents who wish to teach their children about their faith find themselves marginalized and vilified. Children may face confusion and conflict as they navigate a school environment that promotes values and beliefs contrary to those taught at home. This tension can lead to a sense of isolation and alienation within Christian families.
Personal testimonies from Christian parents and children highlight the challenges they face. Stories of families who have had to fight legal battles, move to different school districts, or homeschool their children to preserve their religious teachings are not uncommon. These narratives underscore the resilience of Christian families in the face of societal and legal pressures.
Signs of the Times
The Book of Revelation provides prophetic insights into the challenges faced by Christians today. Revelation 13:7 speaks of a time when the beast "was given power to wage war against God’s holy people and to conquer them." This scripture can be seen as a reflection of the current societal and legal pressures on Christians, suggesting that these challenges are expected in the end times.
Perseverance and Faith
Despite the adversities, Christians are called to persevere. Revelation 14:12 states, "This calls for patient endurance on the part of the people of God who keep his commands and remain faithful to Jesus." Christians are reminded that while these times of unjust unfairness are foretold, they must continue to uphold and speak their faith.
The Ultimate Victory
The Book of Revelation also assures Christians of the ultimate victory of God’s kingdom. Revelation 21:4 promises, "‘He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death’ or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away." This hope empowers Christians to continue their mission, knowing that their efforts are not in vain.
Emphasizing Parental Rights
Parental rights in education are fundamental. Parents have the primary responsibility and authority to decide what values and beliefs their children should learn. Legal frameworks should protect this right, ensuring that parents can guide their children's moral and spiritual development without interference.
Proposing a Balanced Educational Approach
A balanced educational approach that respects diversity and inclusion should also include Christian perspectives. Schools should provide an environment where all beliefs are taught and respected. Policies should ensure that Christian teachings are not marginalized but are included as part of a comprehensive and fair educational curriculum.
The current double standard in indoctrination and education is both unfair and detrimental to Christian families. While secular and other religious teachings are promoted and protected, Christian parents face criticism and legal challenges for teaching their faith. This hypocrisy undermines the principles of religious freedom and equality. It is imperative to advocate for a balanced and inclusive approach that respects the rights of all parents to guide their children's education. By doing so, we can create a society that truly values diversity and upholds the fundamental rights.
