The Enchanted Night of Toys

It was a quiet evening in the house of little Diba and her elder brother Vicky. The sun had already set, and the soft colors of dusk were fading into night. Both children were sitting comfortably in the TV lounge, waiting eagerly for their favorite cartoon show to begin.

Their Mama and Papa had gone to visit a sick relative in the hospital. Before leaving, they had instructed both children very carefully:
“Don’t fight, don’t go outside the house, and stay together until we return.”

The siblings had promised to behave, and for a while, everything was perfectly fine. They were sitting side by side, munching on some snacks, their eyes glued to the television screen, giggling at the funny characters about to appear.

Suddenly, everything changed.

With a sudden click and a hum, the electricity went off, plunging the entire house into deep darkness. The screen went blank, the fan stopped spinning, and silence filled the room. For Diba, who was very small and still in playgroup, this was terrifying. She hated darkness and always clung to her mother whenever the lights went out.

The little girl burst into loud sobs, hiding her face in her hands.

Vicky, although older, also felt afraid inside. But he knew he had to act brave for his sister’s sake. He wrapped his arms around her and whispered, “Don’t cry, Diba. I’m here with you. Nothing will happen.”

He tried to sound strong, though his heart was also beating fast.

At the same time, he fumbled around the lounge, searching for the box of matches so he could light a candle. But in the pitch-black room, nothing was visible. His hands knocked against tables and chairs, but he couldn’t find what he was looking for. Meanwhile, Diba’s cries grew louder and louder.

And then… something magical happened.

In the middle of the darkness, a tiny glimmer of light appeared on the showcase where the children’s toys were neatly arranged. Both siblings froze, staring wide-eyed at the sparkling spot. At first, they thought their eyes were playing tricks. But as they looked closer, they realized what it was—

The eyes of Diba’s Barbie doll were glowing like two shining stars.

Suddenly, the Barbie doll jumped down gracefully from the shelf and landed on the glass-top center table in front of them. In her little hand, she held a shining microphone, from which a soft beam of light radiated, brightening the room.

Then, with a smile, Barbie began to sing in a sweet, melodious voice. The tune was so pleasant, so magical, that Diba immediately stopped crying. She wiped her tears and clapped her hands. Vicky, forgetting all his fear, joined in, clapping joyfully to the beat of her song.

The dark room no longer felt frightening—it felt alive and full of wonder.

As Barbie finished her song with a graceful bow, another surprise followed. Vicky’s toy drummer leaped out of the showcase with a loud thump and began to beat his little drums with energy and excitement. His rhythms filled the room, making both children laugh.

And then came Mickey Mouse, hopping merrily with his wide grin. The children’s beloved toy characters were coming to life, one after another!

Soon, the entire showcase seemed to awaken. Cars rolled forward, stuffed animals danced, and action figures marched in rhythm. The whole lounge had turned into a lively stage, and Diba and Vicky were the happiest audience. They clapped, laughed, and shouted with delight, completely forgetting the darkness that had scared them so much just moments ago.

Just as they were enjoying the fun, a new sound entered the air.

It was the gentle, soothing music of a flute. The tune was so beautiful, so enchanting, that everyone—Barbie, Mickey, the drummer, and all the toys—paused to listen.

The children felt as if the melody was calling them somewhere. Their hearts longed to follow it.

Barbie, whose glowing eyes still lit the way, turned toward the source of the music. She motioned with her tiny hand for everyone to come. One by one, the toys began to follow her. Vicky and Diba, holding hands, also walked behind, curious to discover who was playing such a heavenly tune.

They moved out of the lounge, into the gallery, and finally entered their Mama and Papa’s bedroom.

There, on a soft sofa, sat a breathtakingly beautiful fairy. Her wings shimmered like silver moonlight, and in her hands was a delicate flute from which the magical melody flowed.

The fairy smiled warmly at the children and, while continuing to play, gently motioned for them to climb onto the bed. Obediently, Vicky and Diba lay down side by side. The fairy put away her flute and began singing a lullaby in a voice as soft as a mother’s embrace.

It was the same kind of lullaby their Mama sang to them every night.

Within moments, their eyelids grew heavy. Their breathing slowed. Soon, both children drifted into peaceful slumber, smiles resting on their lips.

As they slept, the toys quietly marched back to the showcase, each taking its original place. The Barbie doll climbed back up, her eyes slowly dimming until they looked like ordinary plastic again. The fairy, her mission complete, looked once at the sleeping children and whispered a blessing before vanishing, perhaps to help other little ones who feared the dark.

An hour later, the main gate creaked open. Mama and Papa finally returned home, exhausted after the long hospital visit. Mama rushed inside, worry written on her face. She knew Diba hated darkness and feared her daughter must have cried terribly.

She and Papa searched the lounge but found no one there. With Papa’s mobile torch, they quickly checked the other rooms until they entered their bedroom.

To their amazement, they saw both children sleeping peacefully on the bed, their faces glowing with gentle smiles. At that very moment, the electricity returned, filling the room with warm light.

Mama sighed in relief and whispered, “Look at them, smiling just like they do when I sing them a lullaby.”

Neither she nor Papa knew the magical adventure that had taken place while they were away—an adventure that had turned a night of fear into a night of wonder.
