Introduction:

"Ponniyin Selvan" is a Tamil historical novel written by Kalki Krishnamurthy, first published in 1950. Plot:

The novel begins with the arrival of Kundavai, the daughter of Sundara Chola, to Thanjavur to meet her brother Aditya Karikalan, who is the crown prince of the Chola dynasty. Aditya Karikalan is a brilliant warrior and leader, but he is also impulsive and hot-headed. Kundavai tries to reason with him about his actions and behavior, but he is stubborn and refuses to listen to her.

Meanwhile, rumors start spreading about the death of Sundara Chola, and a mysterious figure called the "Madurai Veeran" is believed to be responsible for it. The Madurai Veeran is a legendary figure who is said to be invincible in battle and has sworn to avenge the wrongs done to his family by the Chola dynasty.

Arulmozhivarman, who is also known as Ponniyin Selvan, arrives in Thanjavur with his mother and sister to meet Aditya Karikalan. Ponniyin Selvan is a handsome and intelligent young man, who is loved and respected by all. He quickly becomes friends with Aditya Karikalan and tries to convince him to change his ways and become a responsible ruler.

Meanwhile, a group of conspirators led by the powerful and ambitious Pazhuvetarayar are planning to overthrow the Chola dynasty and take control of the kingdom. They believe that Aditya Karikalan is not fit to rule and that they can use his weaknesses to their advantage.

As the story progresses, Ponniyin Selvan discovers the truth behind Sundara Chola's death and the identity of the Madurai Veeran. He also uncovers the conspiracy to overthrow the Chola dynasty and has to fight to protect his family and kingdom. Along the way, he meets a host of other characters, each with their own unique storylines and subplots.
