Swimming lessons

I wrote this for another website but I wanted to add more to the story because mom is always doing the mommy thing and also to post it here as well.

Recently, I signed my son(he is my youngest) up for swimming lessons for two reasons. The first was because at his age, he needs to learn and the second is that I am concerned about his weight .

As the days went by leading up to the first lesson, I was kinda very quiet about it and not showing much enthusiasm despite my actually being excited for him. My thoughts and worries were always present in my mind and were kept on the back burner of my mind.

Do I have some worries about his new adventure? Yes, some because of his autism but after watching his first lesson I was excited for him. He was so excited and scared at the same time but willing to follow the swim teacher and do what she was showing him. It showed me that despite my stress this was something that we both needed to experience.

The stress about his weight also seem to lift because I realized that with continued lessons despite his sometime food aversions we could get him to lose the weight as he grows older. So he truly needed this because he isn’t as active regarding exercise and this is something that allows for weight loss as well as fun.

His grandma’s…. both of them are excited for him as well.I added this because honestly just getting the same reaction from both of them is funny. But considering he is the youngest grandson on both sides I see and match their enthusiasm.

Sitting here watching as the second lesson goes on and I am surprised and proud at the new confidence that I am seeing. Oh my, he just tried the 4 feet side and did well. Now, if we can just get him to let go and fully dunk his head under ……….

Yea, its the night before the third lesson and maybe we will see that head dunk during tomorrows lesson. And the third session went really well as confidence in himself is growing but sometimes a peak of fear also shows as he learns a swim skill.

As, I type this, its early morning and I am recollecting on the events of yesterday's class. One of the lessons that I am learning is that of boy patience because honey .... i'm used to girls but when this boy finds his interest he doesn't shut up about it. Which is a good thing because I do encourage things like that. Right now the kid is excited because his birthday is coming up and when it does he actually has a lesson that day. So right now the interest are minecraft and swimming ..... the swimming will hopefully stick but the minecraft we shall see.

This week and next week will be swimming, birthday prep, and non stop talking about minecraft. I'm gonna have to stop here for now cause... this writer has business stuff to do and plus its a swimming day. Ok, its been a few days since his last swim lesson and we are enjoying the weekend. Happy Easter, yall. Anyway, he did so well at his lesson and he was so proud at the new skills that he learned. He still has some things that he needs to learn but with each week and more lessons later I am sure he will be very good at swimming.

I am looking forward to experiencing new adventures with him including swimming but for right now we will stick with this. Who knows whats next for him.
