Paranneting
Parent Consult & Educator, Virtual Parenting and Child Development Resource Center

I’m Anne, a Master of Social Work, early childhood educator, and dedicated mother. My journey in working with children began at the age of 11, when I took on the role of a camp counselor. Over the years, I have embraced various roles—from caring for younger family members to serving as a career nanny, school social worker intern, early childhood educator, and, most significantly, as a mom.
At this stage of my career, I am eager to continue establishing a meaningful presence where I can assist and support others. Thus, Paranneting (Par-Anne-ting) was born- a platform that allows me to work with parents and families to overcome the challenges of parenthood, where caregivers can connect or seek guidance, and navigating the complexities of balancing numerous responsibilities while striving to provide the best for our children and ourselves.
What qualifies me to speak on child development and parenting? In addition to over 16 years of hands-on experience, I have rigorously studied childhood development and family psychology, engaged in countless hours of professional development, and continuously educate myself on the best practices for raising children. I have completed more than 1,200 supervised clinical hours in educational and clinical settings, including internships within a local public school system and a private early education center.
As an experienced caregiver and educator, I am deeply passionate about several key topics related to child development and parenting. These subjects influence how I teach, interact with clients, advise families, and raise my son.
Positive Guidance: This approach emphasizes nurturing a child’s emotional, social, and cognitive development through positive reinforcement, effective communication, and respectful interactions. It creates a supportive environment where children are empowered to explore, learn, and make choices within appropriate boundaries. Positive guidance acknowledges children as active participants in their development, deserving of acknowledgment and respect for their voices and feelings.
Diversion, Not Discipline & Related Consequences: Diversion focuses on redirecting a child’s attention and behavior, rather than resorting to punitive measures. It leverages a child’s natural curiosity to guide behavior positively, reducing the frequency of “no’s” they hear and giving them a sense of autonomy. By offering choices within boundaries, children feel empowered, fostering a sense of agency and independence. As children get older and develop a sense of right vs. wrong, related consequences can be implemented to curb "undesired" behaviors. Ie: having a child clean the mess they made before they can continue playing, lower a teen's curfew or requiring a teen to check in more frequently when out after they missed their curfew several times without communicating they would be home late.
Narrating and Modeling: These techniques are invaluable in teaching young children. Narrating involves describing actions and emotions, enhancing vocabulary and comprehension. Modeling demonstrates desired behaviors for children to emulate, fostering healthy emotional and behavioral development through observational learning.
Play is learning: Learning and play are one in the same during childhood and even into adolescence. Play-based learning is crucial during early childhood because it serves as the foundation for a child's cognitive, social, emotional, and physical development. Play-based learning is an educational approach that emphasizes the importance of play in a child's development. It involves creating an environment where children can explore, discover, and learn at their own pace through playful activities. This method is grounded in the understanding that play is a natural and essential part of childhood development, providing opportunities for children to engage in both structured and unstructured play experiences.
