My Two Sons Played Roulette At Home, But How As We Didn't Have A Roulette Ball

How do you play Roulette without a ball - I'm not sure you want to know

We had a dedicated cupboard at home that we used to store our board games and jigsaw puzzles. We had them all. From Snakes n Ladders, Draughts, Game of Life, Monopoly and Roulette, just to name a few.

Cleaning out that cupboard of unplayable games was on my to do list, but somehow, as a single mother, it never managed to get to the top of the list.

One game I knew definitively should get thrown out was the Roulette. We had the Roulette Wheel but the ball had gone missing some time back. What good is a wheel without a ball?

Let me tell you a story of when my two boys pulled out the Roulette Game and decided to play it. It just so happened to be a day I was at work.

My oldest son was seven at the time and he used to look after his, five year old, brother after school each day, until I would arrive home from work.

I know I can hear you all say seven is young but my oldest boy was very mature for his age, plus we lived next door to the childcare centre the boys had attended for years. So any issues and they had permission to get help from the Childcare Centre. Plus they knew they could ring me anytime.

So on this day they have found the Roulette game and decided to play it together.

They pulled it out of the cupboard, opened the box, removed the roulette wheel and set it up on the kitchen floor. They tipped the box upside down and out rolled a single white ball.

All is well and they were having a lot of fun for about an hour, when suddenly my oldest son threw the ball into the spinning wheel and it must have been a little hard, because the ball broke.

Only it was not a roulette ball they were playing with. It was a lizard’s egg. How they were able to play with it for so long, without breaking it earlier, had me mystified.

My oldest son has a very weak stomach. When he threw the ball into the roulette wheel and it broke, he immediately turned to the side and vomited all over the kitchen floor. Poor love.

I get a phone call at work from my oldest son. He told me they had been playing roulette and of course, I over ride him asking how, as we no longer had a ball. That’s when he told me what happened and he was devastated that he had made a mess. He was in tears as he told me he didn’t know how to clean it up.

I knew he couldn’t clean it up without making even more of a mess. I calmed him down, let him know he wasn’t in trouble and told him to cover the mess with a tea towel. I would clean it up when I got home.

Once he was okay again he hung up the phone and I’m sorry but, I promptly burst out laughing. That deep belly, almost historical laughter. I could just imagine their little faces, happily playing roulette together and then the ‘ball’ breaking. OMG, I wish I had been a fly on the wall in that very instance.

What a horrible Mother I was! But seriously, tell me you wouldn’t have found that funny too.
