My Review of The Oreo House
The Magic of A Small House

You all are familiar with the classic gingerbread house. I know Christmas and that holiday tradition has passed barely with me. We all need recovery from the holidays and to regroup from it all. I wanted to share my wonderful experience of the Oreo House my family and I built and ate right before Christmas. I personally never been a fan of the gingerbread house because I always felt it was too hard to eat and didn’t have the right balance of taste. I mean it looks great putting it together. Aren’t you suppose to have fun eating it after or am I wrong in that part? When I saw the commercials for the Oreo House I was like a child waiting for Santa to arrive. That thrill and excitement all brought to life. Oreo's are a classic. You will find few who don’t like Oreo's but I’m pretty sure the majority will be for Oreo's.
I had my hopes high for it to arrive at our local Walmart and to my disappointment each time I looked it was never there. I would always ask, “Are you all getting in the Oreo House?” Shock and confusion and the response, “I didn’t know they had an Oreo House, so I guess not.” I’m in a custody battle with my son and I get eight uninterrupted hours with my son supervised due to my health. Being a baking and craft mom with Christmas nearing I broke down and asked my Facebook friends if they have seen this magical house. To my surprise only through eBay and Amazon. I felt defeated and I decided not this year and had hoped for next year. The Saturday before Christmas after getting my son in the exchange we stopped to see a few friends before going to my parents' house to unwrap a few gifts with cousins. One special friend who I just ended a relationship with had surprised me with an Oreo House for me and my son.
There are not enough words for the shock and excitement to receive that right before Christmas. I was beyond thrilled and my son had a huge smile on his face. During the time all this took place he was three weeks shy of turning three years old. We arrive at my parents' house and I had to get my video recorder rolling because my little sister who is seven has been asking for this Oreo House as well. As soon as I walked in and she saw it her eyes lite up and mouth hit the floor. Forgot about a kid wanting toys. She was on cloud nine. I explained it was my Christmas gift and her nephews that we all were going to share. My nieces and nephews wanted to open presents and I told them we wanted to do the Oreo House first.
Let me break this down so I am 31, my son is almost 3, my little sister is seven, niece is nine and nephew is eight. So we all wash our hands and clear the table to build this house. The camera is rolling and my mom is watching. I don’t remember there being any instructions but I’m not an instruction follower anyway. We were disappointed the house came in broken from Amazon but we weren’t going to throw a fit. We wanted to build this and taste it. All hands on deck figuring out where the walls are, the windows and roof. The icing bag wasn’t the best to work with. I’ve been a cake decorator for eighteen years. The box and how pretty the house looks can be deceiving because of the icing bag that came with it. You need a cake decorator tip to create those beautiful markings on the house which the house doesn’t come with. Maybe they can offer an additional option to buy an upgraded version of the house with cake decorating tools to create that beautiful look on the box. The icing bag it came with we had it everywhere and I didn’t create a big hole. We had to secure the foundation and put the broken pieces back together again. There was no way we could create pretty designs with that icing bag. My son didn’t get involved in the building process he was playing race cars. My sister, niece, nephew and I were having a blast trying to create this house and use our imagination to who would live in it. I told them it didn’t matter if it was pretty because we wanted to taste it. I mean it’s Oreo's, who doesn’t want to try an Oreo House?
Now time for decorations. My son loved this part. There wasn’t a lot provided to decorate with but we made due. It looked like kindergartens put this house together. We were having too much fun to care. We took a picture and said let’s dig in. Out of nowhere my son takes his head like a crane and smashes into the house to take a huge bite out of it. The cutest thing ever. Oh my goodness it tasted so good! I was thinking of traditional Oreo taste. No way. It had a different Oreo taste that wasn’t rich. The cookie was soft and not hard to eat. The icing wasn’t even as rich as the Oreo icing. We sat there eating and eating. It was so good. We couldn’t stop talking about how much fun it was and how good it tasted. We seriously wanted to put another Oreo House together right then and there. We had icing everywhere and it made for the best memories. We unwrapped gifts but my son came back to the Oreo house and like a crane, he dunked his head back into the house to grab another bite. He couldn’t stop eating it. I was worried about a belly ache. None of us could stop eating. Just a glass of milk and we would be great. I truly hope they never get rid of the Oreo House and that it will be our Christmas tradition. I’m so thankful for the memories made, the belly laughs, icing smeared everywhere, and the smiles all from one tiny little house.
