My Greatest Creation

The Importance of lifting your Kids in Love

By Jay LeTron DobbinsPublished 3 years ago 3 min read

I try to tell my kids that having them come into my life is the greatest event ever. There is never a "sure" thing in life and no matter how much you teach or instruct your kids on what not to do and how to live life; there is always the unknown element that can suck the life and motivation out of them at any given moment. I am tasked with developing three wonderful souls all at the same age. Yes, triplets and I put the world before them and anyone else that I can see with my own two eyes.

Pouring love into them is a never ending adventure. I send them some of my fictional stories to read with the idea to place hope in their heads that they can be anything with concentration and effort. Its amazing that three babies can come out at the same time and be totally different in everything they do. I try to get a better understanding as to how it is growing up with a siblings the same age and continue to ask them. Maybe I will understand it more as they get older and able to explain and articulate how it is growing up together.

The world is harsh and gives no one a second chance. Setting your kids up for success is very important. I would be the last person to give advice or tell someone how to raise and develop children. However, it is my firm opinion that telling your kids they have to go when they turn 18 is such a cop out! Sending a child out to face the world with little to no knowledge of financial understanding as to how the world operates is a setup for failure.

We no longer live in the time of "figure it out" with the way this economy is falling in our day and age. Now I am all for my kids leaving if they have some kind of understanding of how the financial sector of this country operates. However, sending them off to school to hopefully end up with a dead-end job that will barely pay for their degree and a decent living is not the plan.

I really think that placing love into them at an early age and helping them understand life, will help them with their future. Keeping an open line of communication will hopefully avoid or minimize unwanted events that life has to offer. Yes, kids will make mistakes and things will happen. However, I think with constant communication to them should help ease their comfort in coming to me when they have problems. I know, easier said than done!

It has to start from somewhere and love and communication is not a bad start. Constant unconditional encouragement is something I will always give my kids. Build on those souls and construct positive thoughts in their minds. Choosing when and when not to lecture and discipline them is also important. I've seen parents in the past yell at their kids right before school and bed and would think to myself, "poor child has to get through the most important part of their day or rest thinking about their failures amplified by a parent who lacks proper parental skills".

My methods are far from perfect, but I know when to let up off the gas and press the brakes at the right time. I wonder if some parents even realize the toxic behavior they are pouring into their kids and then wonder why those same kids rebel at certain points in their growth from teens to young adults. Have the patience to put your kids first when it comes to growth and development. Take the time to tell them that you love them and help them understand they are lined up to do great things in life!
