Molding of Clay
A Daughters Love

It was a Saturday, June 1st to be exact, and small but full of energy Corrine Day was wide awake at 8:30 AM. This was the normal routine for the new kindergartners who were labeled as ‘exceptional children’. It was summer vacation and she finally got to spend it with her very flamboyant, genius, hustler of a mother whom the neighborhood simply knew her as Clay. At the age of five Corrine was as innocent as they come but with a mother like Clay, she was molded a tad bit different.
Unlike most children on a Saturday morning, Corrine wouldn’t dare wake her mother. She knew her mother worked all night and had just gotten home not too long before she awoke. While as excited she was she knew how to go about her day. She looked at her mother laying peacefully on her side of the bed and kissed her on the cheek. In her attempt of trying to get out the bed she stumbled. She knew she messed up the minute her face hit the cold hardwood floor. Her first instinct was to cry out in pain as any child would do. Sadly the floor won the battle over little Corrine and ultimately left a scar over her eye that would follow her the rest of her life. But she didn’t cry. She knew better than that, she wiped her face and crawled to the kitchen to get to the normal ‘nasty snack’ that was always there. She didn’t know what it was, only that it was always there. ‘The nasty drink ’ was brown, foamy and had a weird taste, but without thinking Corrine took a sip. She knew her mother would notice if the contents of the bottle were off by a hair, so she filled it back up with water. Corinne knew if it didn’t look right their happy time would soon come to an end. After covering her tracks and her perfect mothers naked body, she took the normal toys to go outside and enjoy was called a “Clay’s Block Party”. Everyone knew Corrine , that’s why they called her baby Clay . Because she looked just like her mother. Corrine was so smart she knew exactly what to do even if her mother was asleep. She made all of the “boss moves”. A typical child would bring dolls and trucks outside, but little Corrine brought her mother’s credit card and ordered a stretch limo for the ride she to the courtyard to meet her best friends.Sam and Vinny. One boy was an Italian and the other Swedish . These two little boys constantly ran from their apartment to meet Corinne coming outside. It was always the three of them together. They saw no color or race only that Corrine‘s mother made their weekend full of excitement far from the normal routine. They would take the limo to a McDonald’s drive-through, they ordered three big Macs and a M&M McFlurrys. Everything was timed perfectly. By the time Corrine was shutting the door to the limo it was time for her mother to go to work. Her mother worked double shifts at the hospital with the special people. Corrine always wanted to go with her but the look on her mother’s face said otherwise. Her mother always said they will still be there and she would make it up to her the minute she got home. Corrine didn’t care either way because her mother was her safety net. She hugged her tight and said “tell your patients I said hey” her mother laughed and said “you make me fight to see another day”.
Now something most people don’t know about Clay is that on the outside looking in she was not only a nurse, she was a certified queen pin the ‘Robin Hood’ of Queens. She would never allow you to go hungry, and had control over all of the dope fiend‘s. Corrine wouldn’t have known any better, to her Clay was perfect it was them against the world, Clay and ‘baby clay’. And to be honest Clay felt the same way even though she was the mother, Corrine molded her into a new clay.
