Letter To My Future Child

Dear baby,

I love you and I do not even know you

I feel you and I have not even touched you

I hear you and you have not even spoken

I see you and I haven’t even laid my eyes on you

I have loved you one thousand years before and I will love you one thousand years into the future

I love you now and I will love you forever

I love you when you don’t exist yet, I’ll love you when you are here

I’ll love you when you are small and I’ll love you when you are big

Even when you are bigger than me I’ll love you

I’ll love you in the good times and I’ll love you in the bad times

I am not perfect and I don’t expect you to be

I promise to correct you with kindness and gentleness

I promise to seek solutions jointly

I’m never gonna call you a bad word. I promise not to hurt you

I know my words or actions might hurt you sometimes, but I promise that hurting you will never be my intention

My job is to guide you to find your path and to be the best version of yourself

I promise to support you even when I don’t understand this path as long as you are not hurting yourself or others in the process

Baby, I can’t promise life is gonna be easy, I can’t promise finding yourself, your role and your path is gonna be smooth

All I can promise is that you will not be alone in it

I will be there with you and I’ll be there for you

I hope you will want me to be there with you. And I promise to be a person that you would want to be there with you

I know the mummy I want to be to you might not necessarily be the mummy that you would want or the mummy that is best for you and your path

Please let me know if it ever gets there

Correct me with kindness, and help me understand you with kindness

I promise to listen and to try to be a person that is good for you and your path

I promise to not judge you, shame, ridicule, or embarrass you simply because I don’t understand you

I’ll strive to be a person that builds and nurtures. A person that guides and comforts

A person that you can always seek guidance from, listen to, and want to emulate

A person that will always make you feel at home

I promise to be the mummy I’ve always wanted but also the mummy that is best for you

And I hope together in our journey, we can be the best versions of ourselves

And find meaning, joy, happiness, worth, and contentment in this life that we were gifted to share
