It was all just a dream

We drove up the snowy, winding road towards the cozy A-frame cabin after a long day of fun activities. I didn't realize how much I needed a vacation from working all the time. I don’t remember the last time I had this much fun in my life.

“Aren’t you glad that you finally took your vacation days?” My mom asked. “Even though its cold and my CRPS is killing me?”

“Yeah,” I responded “I don’t remember having this much fun in a long time. I didn’t realize I needed a vacation this badly. Thank you for convincing me to take it.”

“No problem. You’re becoming too much like your mother that needs to stop. Now when we get home shall we eat our leftovers for dinner or are you still up for making dinner?”

“Let’s unpack and rest first then we’ll see how we feel. I suspect we might eat our leftovers. But if we get hungry I can always cook something for us.”

“Sounds like a plan”

We finally approach our A-frame Cabin. As we got out of our SUV car I get out of the car to open the trunk. Meanwhile, my Mom unbuckles and climbs toward the trunk instead

“Seriously Mom?! I know we’re parked but it’s called getting out of the car?

“Jokes on you I’m cozy and warm and you are in the cold.”

“You nearly gave me a scare when I was driving. The number of times I yelled put your seatbelt on while I was DRIVING.”

I know it was fun to see you freaked out!

You're cruel sometimes

I'm cruel all the time now help me grab our bags we got a lot to unpack. Why did you leave me unsupervised?

I looked away for 1 second and you were gone

Sounds a lot like you’re fault!

I chucked and popped the trunk. The trunk was full of our shopping bags of the day. I grabbed a handful in each hand. Mom climbed over the seats into the trunk to grab the rest of the shopping bags.

“See? Work smart not hard”

“I hate you”

Mom laughed out loud and attempted to close the trunk. We started to walk towards our cabin and listen to the crunchy snow.

*crunch, crunch, crunch,*

I opened the door and felt the warmth smack me in the face. We put down our bags and took off our boots and jacket. I opened our closet to put away our cold winter coats. I picked up the bags and walked toward the living room.

“Can I be a total butthead?”

“That depends on what the request is. If it’s running back to the city to get something then no”

“Can you set up the fire? I want to roast some marshmallows. I’ll make the coffee while you do that.”

“Sure, I grab some twigs and the firewood. Do you have a lighter on you”

“I’ll put my lighter on the table stand so you can light the fire.”

“Sounds like a plan” I chuckled. As I walk towards the backdoor I picked up a bag for the firewood and a small box for the twigs. I walked down the long shiny hallways to the backdoor and picked up 3 firewood and filled the box with twigs and 8 pinecones. After that was done I walked back to the living room and prepped the fire.

"Coffee is ready. Now I don't know about you but I'm still tired so I say let's relax and enjoy our leftovers for the rest of the night."

I'm still tired. But I agree. Thank you for convincing me to take a vacation. I really needed it.

I put the twigs and pinecones into the fire and the smallest log in. I reached for the lighter and lit the twigs and some pinecones.

"No problem butthead. No son of mine is going to force himself to continue to work overtime. You need to learn to relax sometimes.

What I need to do is to find some hobbies. It feels strange now that I have my own home. My sibling is all grown up and my friends and I never really have the time to meet up so usually I watch movies or bake but eventually, it does

"Become boring. Yikes, you do need hobbies.

Well, this vacation gave me a few ideas. I'm glad that I helped. Now let's enjoy some coffee.

I smiled and took a sip of my coffee. I looked at the fire and started to feel sleepy.

*BEEP BEEP BEEP BEEP*

Huh? I thought

I immediatlly bolted up only to see the time. (9:00am)

Damn it I forgot to turn off my alarm. It's my day off.

I sighed and turned off alarm and reached for my phones

"Hey Alex, I got called in again. Work has been busy with the holidays. I'll call you and we can reschedule another time. Talk to you later"

Again I thought. I sighed and walked to the kitchen.

I prepped a coffee pot and had an idea. I immediatly opened up my phone called someone to create plans.

"Hello?"

"Hey Mom, any plans today?

"Not much. What's up?

Want to go out today? I have the day off and I'll get us some coffee and food

"Sure! I'll meet up with you this afternoon. By the way Beavertails are selling so we're going there!

I laughed. "Sounds like a plan. I'll see you soon!

I hung up the phone and pressed the button for the coffee.

*ring* I looked at my phone and saw that it was my work calling. I sighed and decided to watch it ring. I've been working 8 days in a row now. I don't want to go in.

Sorry work" I thought. "But I need a break. I now have plans today!" I smiled and reached for my coffee cup.

I can't wait for this afternoon!

(So I was late to post this story for the challenge by a lot. I still loved this story and wanted to post it. I hope you enjoyed it!)
