Narcissists typically try to create relationships with people that they can control. This means that these relationships tend to end quickly and abruptly.

The person that the narcissist is in a relationship with will usually feel like they are on a roller coaster of emotions, as the narcissist cycles through periods of either ignoring them or praising them.

This type of behavior is done with the intention of making themselves feel better about themselves and boosting their ego.

Narcissistic relationships are known for being very intense. They have a great start, but then the narcissist can't handle anything that threatens their ego or their view of themselves.

People with narcissistic personality disorder tend to gravitate towards people who put them on a pedestal and cater to their needs because they don't have the skillset to get what they want from anyone else.

But often, these relationships fall apart quickly, sometimes within a few days or months.

What is a narcissistic relationship?

In a narcissistic relationship, one person is the victim, and the other is the narcissist. The narcissist is usually older, has a lot of money, and can be charming at first glance.

In reality, they are controlling and do not care about anything but themselves.

In a narcissistic relationship, it is hard to remember that you have needs or emotions because the only thing that matters to them is themselves.

Narcissistic relationships can result in psychopathic and borderline behavior.

They are often characterized by a strong and observant individual in control and often feel they need to control.

Their partner is usually someone who has low self-esteem, which the narcissist uses to their advantage to manipulate them into serving their needs, often at the expense of their partner's feelings or needs.

Why do narcissistic relationships end?

By Markus Spiske on Unsplash

Narcissistic relationships are often marked by the abuser's need to control.

The abuser cannot use empathy or understanding but instead employs manipulation and control. Narcissistic abuse leaves the victim feeling devalued and neglected, which can lead to depression which then leads to a higher risk of suicide.

No one will ever be good enough for a narcissist because there is only one person that they love: themselves.

Narcissistic relationships are challenging to maintain. They typically end because there is not enough attention given to the partner.

The partner feels neglected and unimportant, leading to increased insecurity, jealousy, and anger.

Another reason narcissistic relationships often end is that the narcissist may feel like they are losing control of their partner.

Narcissists are known for controlling others, but when the tables are turned, they have a hard time accepting them.

Conclusion

In conclusion, it is important for those in a narcissistic relationship to understand the consequence of their actions. It is not healthy to allow a narcissist to control how you think and feel.

They may seem alluring at first, but it is important to slow down and consider these relationships as an extension of oneself, which is where they will most likely falter.

It is also important that you do not allow this person to manipulate and take control over your life if you are currently in a narcissistic relationship.
