Sorie was sorting out his late grandma's bedroom, when he heard three gun shots outside his house.
Let me take you back to the start. Sorie was a 20 years old man, who lost his parents in a car accident when he was three years old. His father's mum took him in and nutured him. She made sure he was provided for, even though she was just a village farmer somewhere in kailahun.
Kailahun is a very small village with a population of 500 residents. Kadija (Sorie's grandmother) was unfortunately killed by lung cancer, leaving Sorie with absolutely nothing for his upkeep. Kadija was buried a day after her death as their muslim custom demands that
Four days after kadija's death, Sorie decided to clean her bedroom so he could move into it. At about 2:00hrs sorie was reorganising the bedroom when he heard three gun shots. He rushed out. Suprisingly, he found a very beautiful black lady laying on the ground in pool of blood. She held very tightly onto a brown purse. Sorie was so scared and startled. He immediately called the police.
However, he acknowledged that it would take the police and paramedics about two hours to get to the crime scene due to poor infrasructural facility. Consequently, he decided to take the wounded lady into his house. She was laid on the floor and sorie was sitted beside her, whilst awaiting the police.
Moreover, the lady was badly wounded from the gunshots close to her chest and arm. Sorie decided to offer first aid to the her as he sensed she was suffering unbearably. As he started tending to the stranger's wound, she held his right arm and gave him the brown purse she was holding. She said ''my name is alice. There is a LITTLE BLACK BOOK with an adress in it, and a key in my purse, please find that address as fast as you can and get a suitcase in a broken fridge in the basement". She added I know I won't make it, I'm getting cold, I can feel my soul is leaving my body" she went further to say, "I'm in so much pain". She went on to say I know my dad will be proud of me where ever he is" and she continued to say, "I would rather the suitcase be in the hands of a stranger than that of those thugs"
As she continued speaking , Sorie heard the siren, he slowly lift her head into his arms. He was so excited when he heard the siren. The paramedics team rushed towards the lady. Sorie looked down at the lady and noticed she wasn't moving. He yelled ''Help is here please wake up'', with so much tears in his eyes, but she didn't respond.
Furthermore, paramedics team assessed the lady and confirmed she was dead. Sorie cried his eyes out, saying to himself "WHY ME LORD? I just lost my granny and yet another tragedy has befall me". He screamed so loud that even the clouds trembled.
As the paramedics was taking the deceased into the ambulance, sorie rushed out shouting , Noooooo, he ran towards the deceased, open the body bag and gave her a kiss on the forhead, the lady shook her feet. Police and paramedics were shocked when they saw that. They immediately rushed with her to the hospital, where she was confirmed to be alive, but was in coma.
The next morning, sorie sat on his bed starring at the purse the lady gave him. He was not sure if he was ready to open it and see what is inside, so he kept it under his bed. Sorie visited the stranger at the hospital everyday. His journey by foot to the hospital took him approximately ten hours, each time he visited , because he could not afford transport fare. Weeks went by and there was still no improvement on Alice.
As time goes by, things became so hard for sorie, he couldn't even afford a meal a day. The late kadija never allowed his grandson to work on the farm with her. She made sure he was provided with his needs even though she was only a small time rice farmer, she loved him so much that she never allowed him lift a finger when she was alive.
Sorie stopped paying a visit to the lady because it was getting difficult and tiring for him.
One faithful night, there was a very heavy storm that blew away almost every house in kailahun village, which left so many people homeless including sorie, so he decided to move to the nearest city and stay under the bridges.
He was packing his things together to start his journey when he came across the purse that was given to him by the Alice . He decided to open the purse. He found a little black book with an adress in it and a key, just as he was told. The adress found in the book was in Freetown, the capital city of Sierra leone, which is miles miles away from kailahun. So many thoughts went through his head that moment, like , how did the Alice get to kailahun?who is she? how can he get to freetown? which is almost two days journey by car and he couldn't afford the transport fare. He said to himself every journey starts with a step , i will take this journey even if it means walking to Freetown.
Very early on a sunday morning, sorie began his journey. He had a bag pack, and a bottle of water with him, as he started his journey, a car drove and stopped right beside him. There was a man and his wife in the car, the man asked sorie where they can find a toilet. Sorie replied ,there are no toilets anywhere near by, but they can get off the car and use the bushes. He told them they should not be afraid, that he was going to look after the car. The family went out of the car, into the bushes, urinated and get back to their car. They found everything as they left them, he even left his wallet on his car seat with money in it. The man was amazed at Sorie's honesty, so he asked him where he was going, Sorie showed him the adress from his little black book. Luckily for Sorie the family were headed the same direction. But GUESS WHAT? sorie was told by the man that the adress he was headed is the house of the ex president of Sierra leone, he also mentioned the house is currently surrounded by the police because the whole family that lived in the house was murdered. The matter is still under investigation, no leads yet though, but the police are on it.
Sorie silently said to himself, no matter what the situation is, he must get into that house and get that suitcase, that's a promise must must fulfill. The family dropped sorie closer to the house and pointed him the house, they were afraid to get closer because the house was surrounded by police. Sorie began to think of ways on how he could get into the house without the police seeing him. At 1.am he tored his clothes and covered himself with mud, and acted as if he was mentally disturbed. He asked the police men to please allow him spend the night, that he is homeless. The police felt pity for him and let him into the house. He quietly snook in, grab the suitcase and wait till 4.am to exit the building, luckily for him he wasn't caught.
Sorie went to a quiet spot and opened the suitcase, he was shocked at what he saw, the suitcase was filled with different kinds of currencies, including euros, dollars and pounds. He was confused, and wasnt sure about what should be his next move. He booked a taxi, and went straight to the hospital where the wounded lady was admitted. The taxi fare must have cost alot, but he wouldn't mind, would he ? as he is in possession of loads of cash.
He arrived at the hospital and went to see Alice. With tears in his eyes, he said to her'' i have fulfilled my promise,i wish you can wake up''. He slowly kissed her on the forhead. Alice shook her feet again. Sorie asked the doctors if she will ever get out of coma, the doctor told him, she is responding to treatment, and that he is positive that she was going to get out of that coma.
Seven years later, Alice was still in coma.
Sorie built the biggest children's charity organisation in west africa with the money from the suitcase, he named it HAPPY NIGHTMARE. He was also considered one of the richest bachelor in west africa. He transfered the young lady into one of the best hospitals in sierra leone. He visited her everyday and gave her a kiss on the forhead. she shook her leg everytime sorie kisses her forhead.
He never get to know who that mysterious girl was, until she passed away.
Question still remains,, who was Alice? how did she came across that suitcase and how much was in the suitcase? who murdered the ex president and his family?
