God's own Nappy rash solution...
A natural remedy that works...
Like most parents in the 21st century, I found myself searching for the best Nappy Rash Cream when my little one was around 3 weeks old. I was overwhelmed enough with our new family dynamics, so the ridiculous amount of brands in market for one little nappy rash, did not help my sanity. The good news is, I have safely navigated around this whirlpool !
Little back story: I found the best nappy rash cream on the market and it worked like a charm on my baby… only until we started solids at around 6months.
I had to research, to find a new solution for my “red bum baby”! I opted for a more conservative approach this time. We all know how after 2 quarters of a year of parenting, many start their own “youtube channel” and give expert tips and free advice on the internet. Well, I am a devoted follower of some of these experts. This time around, “diaper free time” was the answer I was drawn to.
I learnt that, intolerance to certain types of food can cause redness in the nappy area, especially acidic fruits- berries, oranges, lemon etc. With a judicious amount of our new ritual- “diaper free time”, we found improvement. The red bum definitely cleared, but our home was becoming everything other than clean! I noticed myself spraying ‘Dettol’ in different corners within our home. Sometimes, it was the kitchen floor, and this triggered my determination to put a full stop to this unsanitary habit. I needed a solution to help me reduce the duration of nappy free times, yet something to protect my baby’s delicate bottom!
It was time to put on a detective’s hat. I turned to the Sherlock within and observed everything around our home- our habits, baby’s food, bath times etc. In few days time, we had some information.
Here is a short list of what we found:
1) Bathing our baby with soap = Red bum the very next morning.
2) Acidic fruits (like strawberry) as solo snack = Red bum baby for sure!
3) Fruit yogurt with rice/bread meal = Neutral
4) Baby oil massage = Clear bottoms for next couple of days… Eureka!
Something we had been using all along was helping our baby and did we take notice of this wonder? No, not until we adopted the ‘art of noticing’ for few days!
With a little bit of conscious observation of our habits and surroundings, we found a solution which was otherwise not so obvious.

Coconut cultivation is common in the tropical and sub-tropical parts of the world- Indonesia, Sri Lanka, India, Brazil etc. In India, coconut oil is very commonly used in households, especially in God’s own country “Kerala” . And hence this name “God’s own Nappy Rash solution”. Even though we are not from God’s own country, thanks to our global market- we have and use coconut oil in our home. Mostly for scalp massages and for baby’s massage. It works very well as a moisturiser and protective barrier.
With a little coconut oil around the nappy areas, we can now go without “nappy free time” for few days in a row. This is super helpful especially during our long haul travels, long working days etc. I would 100% recommend this to all parents who are in search of an organic solution to these very common nappy rashes. You will need just a tiny amount to ditch that itch! Bear in mind, you will have to find a pure UNSCENTED version of the oil in your part of the world, which wasn’t difficult for us even in the West.
Thankyou for reading.
