In a small village nestled deep in the forest, there lived a woman named Maria. She was known throughout the village for her kindness and her deep faith in the gods. Maria spent most of her days tending to her garden, caring for her animals, and praying to the gods for guidance and wisdom.

One day, as she was gathering herbs in the forest, Maria stumbled upon a hidden clearing that she had never seen before. In the center of the clearing stood a magnificent statue of a god, its eyes glinting in the sunlight.

Maria was filled with awe and wonder as she approached the statue, and she felt a deep sense of peace and calm wash over her. As she gazed up at the statue, she heard a soft voice whisper in her ear.

"Maria," the voice said, "you have been chosen by the gods. They have seen your devotion and your kindness, and they have chosen you to be their emissary on earth."

Maria was startled by the voice, but she felt a deep sense of gratitude and honor at being chosen by the gods. She bowed her head and thanked the gods for their blessings.

Over the next few days, Maria felt a powerful presence in her life, guiding her and giving her strength. She felt as though she was being watched over by the gods, and she knew that she had been given a great responsibility.

As time went on, Maria became more and more involved in the workings of the village. She helped to care for the sick and the needy, and she spoke to the people about the power of the gods and the importance of faith and devotion.

Maria's words and actions inspired many in the village, and soon she became known throughout the land as a wise and powerful woman, beloved by all who knew her.

One day, as Maria was walking through the forest, she came upon the statue of the god once again. She felt a deep sense of gratitude and reverence for the god, and she knelt down before the statue in prayer.

Suddenly, she felt a warm breeze blowing through the forest, and she heard a voice speaking to her.

"Maria," the voice said, "you have served the gods well, and you have brought much good to this world. But now, it is time for you to come home to us."

Maria was taken aback by the voice, and she felt a sense of fear and uncertainty. She had always believed in the power of the gods, but she had never imagined that she would be called to leave her earthly life behind.

But as she looked up at the statue, she felt a deep sense of peace and acceptance. She knew that the gods were calling her home, and she was ready to answer their call.

With a sense of calm resolve, Maria stood up and began to walk through the forest, feeling the warm breeze blowing around her. As she walked, she felt a sense of lightness and freedom, as if she was leaving behind all of the worries and cares of her earthly life.

And as she walked, she knew that she was not alone. She could feel the presence of the gods all around her, guiding her and supporting her as she made her way to her new home.

In the end, Maria reached the end of the forest and stepped out into a bright and beautiful world. She looked around her in wonder, feeling a sense of joy and wonder at the beauty and majesty of the world around her.

And as she stood there, surrounded by the beauty and wonder of the gods, she knew that she had found her true home.

As Maria walked through the forest, she could feel her strength beginning to wane. She knew that her time on earth was coming to an end, and she felt a deep sense of sadness and regret.

But as she stumbled through the underbrush, she suddenly saw a vision of the god in front of her. The god was surrounded by a bright light, and Maria could feel its warmth and love reaching out to her.

"Maria," the god said, "you have served us well. You have lived a life of kindness and devotion, and you have brought much good into the world."

Maria felt a sense of comfort and peace wash over her. She knew that the god was speaking the truth, and she was grateful for the life she had lived.

But then, the god spoke again, and its voice was filled with a cold and distant tone.

"However," the god said, "you have also suffered greatly in your life. You have faced many trials and hardships, and you have endured much pain and suffering."

Maria felt a sudden sense of confusion and fear. She had always believed that the gods were kind and loving, but now she was beginning to doubt that belief.

And as the god continued to speak, Maria began to feel a deep sense of anger and betrayal. She had given her life to the gods, but now she felt as though they had abandoned her in her time of need.

In the end, Maria collapsed to the ground, her body wracked with pain and exhaustion. As she lay there, she felt a sense of emptiness and despair wash over her.

And as she took her last breath, she knew that the god was cruel after all, and that she had been wrong to put her faith in them.
