Gabriella’s Wedding Speech
For my sister…

Hello everyone, my name is Sandor, I’m the oldest brother.
I know there are a lot of us siblings, but yesterday Krisztofer accidentally decided he was going to reduce us to our attributes like we’re Snow White and the seven dwarves.
So, for those that were not at the rehearsal last night, I’ve come up with an easy guide to identify us all. Krisztofer over there calls himself the handsome one. Nickolas is the muscular one, Joseph is our shy one. And Matty over there, he’s just the baby.

I must confess, I say all of this as a preface to an apology.
I am so sorry, It will be a miracle if I make it through this speech without crying.
My dwarf name is definitely Weepy.
In fact, there’s a fun family story of the day my mom told me she was having a girl. I was in middle school, waiting for her to pick me up in our old family suburban. First thing I saw as I opened the door were two onesies lying on the passenger seat.
One, said “I'm the baby brother.”
And the second, said “I’m the baby sister”
It took me a full minute to process what I was looking at, but, once it clicked… I immediately burst into tears.
— There’s actually a Polaroid somewhere; tangible evidence that I earned my dwarf name.
What you need to understand is that I was just so excited to have a baby sister. 12 years in a house of brothers and I couldn’t wait to hold you.
To love you.
And to protect you.
The day you and our brother came into this world…
I cried.
The day you two came home from the hospital I held you both so tight….
and I cried.
Big, fat, sobbing tears.

Gabi, I have cried So. Many. times throughout our lives and for so many different reasons.
But today, today has been the sweetest reason of all.
I am just so proud of you.
You and Nicholas are taking an incredibly important step today. Important because the world is full of ups and downs and truthfully, we are nothing more than ships in this very chaotic sea we call life.
Today, you two are tying your ships together and promising that you will not be alone— No matter how dark the night gets, no matter how tumultuous the seas. You’ve promised that when one of you drifts, the other will pull close; when one falters, the other will help mend.
I wanted to protect you when you were a baby. But, as we’ve grown, I discovered that you don’t need protecting. You are an incredibly strong, smart, and ambitious young woman.
My wish for you today isn’t calm seas. Calm seas never made a skillful sailor— instead, I wish you both strong knots. May they hold fast. And may you /always/ find your way back to each other, no matter the storm.
I am so proud of you, Gabriella.
Congratulations to you both! To Nicholas and Gabriella!

I did indeed cry during this speech. I made it about 30 seconds in and couldn’t hold it anymore.
Thank you so much for the read! And a special thank you to Matthew Fromm (https://shopping-feedback.today/authors/matthew-fromm) for giving this a quick look before I stood up and made a fool of myself. Thanks for everything, my friend.

This is so precious 😭💙
What a genuinely moving and funny speech, Sandor! The "dwarf names" intro was such a great way to start, and the whole story about finding out you were getting a baby sister was beautiful and no wonder you earned the name "Weepy"! That ship analogy for marriage was so powerful and such a wonderful wish for Gabriella and Nicholas. That was an amazing speech full of love to your sister and her new husband. I too remember the speech I gave at my baby sister's wedding, and I like you cried.
Awww, this was so heartwarming! Happy married life to both Gabriella and Nicholas! ✨️❤️ Also, you're not alone Weepy, I tend to cry alot too, lol.
Beautiful :) Congrats to your sister and brother in law, and good job on a moving speech!
Ayyy I’m glad you posted this! I for one loved it. The shout out is much appreciated
